It's not body-shaming, it's animal abuse.

Just because "thicc" has become popular in meme culture, doesn't mean its usage doesn't come across as racist a whole lot of the time.

i never do this but i clicked on every single link in this post, even though i hate the way FB does the "load the post but then reload in 'theater' style with the black box around it 5 seconds later" thing.

I am so torn because on the one hand I am horrified at how overweight some of these dogs are, but I also want to squeeze and squish every single one and pinch their doggo chub.

Dachshunds are bred to have weak backs and far too many end up with rear leg paralysis as a result. Many vets told us that the best way to accellerate the damage was by allowing our dog to become obese. When I see a fat dachshund and it's being called "cute," I feel sad for the rest of the day.

"Look at this kitty walking silly! So cute!"
"That kitty has rabies; it will die a horrible death."

Mod note: There is probably some middle ground here where we can collectively quietly acknowledge that pet weight is something owners should think about while also letting folks otherwise enjoy some pics of chubby doggos.

My first-and-only childhood doggo was a basset we acquired as a puppy and grew up with far less of a weight problem than I had at the time, reaching a muscular 60 pounds with which he happily leaped into unsuspecting people's laps. We ended up giving him up to friends with a much larger backyard to run in. The first doggo my wife and I adopted was a 2-year-old beagle/basset mix who was definitely potate-shaped and quietly good-natured. But she came with hidden health issues even our veterinarian didn't spot until too late, and two years later, she quietly (we assume) passed away lying on our bed while I was at work and she was visiting her doctor. After that, we made sure any new doggos were more energetic than either of us.

I love these dogs (and also /r/frankthetank!) but if any one of them came into my care the first thing I'd do is take them to a vet for a checkup and weight loss plan.

I don't love the images of unhealthy dogs but damn if I don't smile every time I think of the term "coach potate".
