There is more doubt...about the world’s commitment to development

The Bill and Melinda Gates foundation has released their first annual report, called "Goalkeepers," focused on 18 indicators of global health drawn from the Millennium Development and Sustainable Development goals set by the UN. Through measurements, projections, and case studies, the report showcases many recent advances and ingenuity while contrasting them with signs of donor fatigue and risk of regression. The report is timed for the UN General Assembly meeting this month, as Mr. Gates fears the world is losing its focus on global health. posted by mosst (2 comments total) 17 users marked this as a favorite

"Based on global child mortality data, the world is on the right track. In the years I’ve been working in global health, the number of child deaths has gone down every year. By a lot. Six million fewer children died in 2016 than in 1990. That’s more than the total number of children in France."

The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation directly invests in, and profits from, corporations and entities that are the leading polluters of our environment and the main drivers of global climate change. It's difficult –for me at least– to take their rhetoric seriously, when the essence of their philanthropic business model is intertwined with the very forces they purport to combat. This essential contradiction is by no means specific to the Gates Foundation, most Foundations are investing in equally destructive industries.
