More nudity than expected

I was done with the movie out of overexposure, but I'm looking for new musicals, and if this has a darker tone I'm willing to give it a try.

(But, Disney, where is our cash-in musical for The Nightmare Before Christmas? A nation of theater girls is waiting for you to take its money.)

I enjoy the movie unironically and recently rewatched the multilingual version of the main song--still fun--so this sounds great. A small bonus is how the movie bugs some of science fiction's rabid puppy contingent, according to a recent blog post by Camestros Felapton.

Oh, I saw this while it was in previews here in Denver! I liked it well enough but don't feel a need to see it again, although I figure it will do well because, well, it's Frozen and a quality production, hitting all the right notes without getting too weird (I saw The Little Mermaid previews out here years ago and, not even getting into some odd costume/set design, the ending was mildly infuriating and I wasn't surprised to see it flop once it arrived on Broadway).

I don't particularly remember it feeling "darker" -- although I thought it was interesting that they got rid of the trolls and made them magic mountain people, and that the girls' mother is part magical mountain person.

I did really love the actor who played Kristoff. Jelani Alladin is just so handsome and charming that it's hard not to fall in love with him. But by far my favorite part of the show was Sven. It's worth the price of admission just to see that puppetry because it is incredible.

But the best thing about the show is that it'll bring in young kids to experience the theater. There were so many tiny Elsas and Annas in the audience, all dressed in their sparkly best. It's bringing in a crowd that might not necessarily go to the theater, as evidenced when I stopped by the merch table and was asked if I'd ever been to a Broadway production there before (yes, many times, actually). Which makes me think there were a lot of first-timers who had come out just because it was Frozen.

(Also the "darker tone" and "find success on broadway" links seem to be the same article just on two different sites, unless I'm missing something.)

Okay but now I'm wondering about the new ending, and what character they removed (I have my guesses).

Do they really need to make a musical out of every movie? C'mon Disney, let it go.

ha, the Sad Puppies fetishize a genre based around FTL travel but they can't swallow the idea of Disney princesses with non-romantic motivations

Looking forward to Disney's new musical, 101 Sad Puppies. Among the changes to the original, Cruella De Vil is the hero in the musical.

I hate this sort of gimmicky stuff honestly.

I think that film was a lot darker than a lot of people give it credit for. I occasionally have conversations with adults who say it was all about Anna and Elsa didn't get fleshed out enough and I just have to pull at my hair and not scream about the entire structure of the double-consciousness she had to navigate through every goddamn minute of that story and how it was portrayed!

I think we have 2 competing concepts of dark. One is standing in the shade, the other is being entombed.

Meanwhile, there’s an even darker version in London.

I think the person who did this anime style opening agrees with you.

It looks like a different movie, but all of that is in there.

I watch Frozen about three times a week, my kids love it. I think it's a great movie and eminently rewatchable even if one is not 2 or 4.

I do have to say, though, that I am convinced that Elsa and Anna's parents are the fucking shittiest parents of the Disney-verse. Nice work, assholes, thoroughly traumatizing both your daughters.

As long as she actually makes the coat, I'm in.

"The Furrier of De Vil," surely.

They really missed an opportunity here. It could have been Frozen On Ice.

lydhre, I continue to be deeply disappointed that they somehow never put the words "Mom and Dad were wrong" in Anna's mouth.
