What's amazing is that "spears" is consistently spelled correctly. It's only the first name that's wrong.

Funny, I don't see "Mindless Corporate Shill Spears" on this list.

I would like to suggest that from now on, "Britney Spears" shall be used in the place of that other "BS" phrase we all know and love. Can't you just see it?

Me: What a crock of Britney Spears!

Me: Have you read this Drudge article yet?
You: That guy is so full of Britney Spears his eyes are pink.

What's amazing is that "spears" is consistently spelled correctly. It's only the first name that's wrong.

What's also amazing is that if you spell both names seriously wrong, Google will still suggest you want Britney Spears. For example try "brtne speres". Similarly, "kristna aglera" gets you Christina Aquilera.

This one may actually be based in reality, frighteningly enough. She was supposed to play Warren's sexbot back in Season 5; a prospect that scared me at first, then when I saw the episode, realized how surreally funny it would have been to see Britney toss Spike through a plate glass window.

I googled brocoli spears (misspelled on purpose) to see what would happen, and ended up with nude photos of Broccoli Spears. The web is a great place.

beagle: Soundex has been a standard searching technique for years, because it makes "Smith", "Smythe", and so forth equivalent search terms.

starvingartist: We don't know that people are actually always spelling "spears" correctly. We only know that Google has shown us the mis-spellings of her first name combined with a correctly-spelled last name. For example, britney+speers returns over 1000 results. Quick searches also find rapidly-declining numbers of results for "spearz", "spaers", and other variants. Presumably search field entries would show a similar distribution.

Every single God damned citizen of Sunnydale, each one of whom, driven by sheer exasperation, will strive to the death to open the Hellmouth so they can throw our three protagonists into it. Woof.
