My dog gets a little Challah every shabbos and hoo boy can she not catch that. We take a little hunk off, sort of lob it at her without releasing it- get her ready... throw it... bounces off her nose/head/ear/general face area and onto the floor. Where she hoovers it up from of course. Every now and then she surprises us and catches it! always gets a big cheer from us. silly puppy.

My dog's favorite food is bananas, and (what a coincidence!) it's one of my favorite foods. Every time I eat a banana i break off little bits to feed her. She will not catch food, though. She won't even try. You can hit her squarely beneath the nose, and she won't even flinch, sitting still til it's hit the floor and she can snatch it up. She also took about a year to learn to play fetch, and it wasn't until just recently that she would try to catch the ball while it was moving. For the longest time she'd just follow along side it as it bounced through the grass, wait for it to stop, and bring it back.
