Can't believe we almost let this annual event pass by without noticing...
(And can't believe the Pyrates haven't made an entry named "Blogger Frog"... Matt?)
Other possible pun-derful topics: DeepLeap, the Webbys, Microsoft NotePad, and a certain 5k Contest entry.

Drat. When you posted a link to Frogtown, I thought you meant the unofficial name of a certain St. Paul neighborhood. I didn't think there was anything going on there this weekend. I was sort of wrong; the Asian American Festival is at the Capitol Saturday, which is near Frogtown.

Yeah, like I'm going to believe anything about a so-called suburb of Minneapolis-St.Paul...

Ha, ha. Funny, but it totally ruins the point of Epinions. If you gotta urge to troll, try doing it at Slashdot. They're used to it. Besides, everyone knows that the MSP area is actually a suburb of River Falls, Wisconsin.

That piece (and a couple other I wrote) was written 6 months ago in response to a challenge in Epinions honcho Peterme's weblog to "test the limits" (or some other similar wording) of the site. I've been meaning to move it to my personal site for months (It's up to #47 on my to-do list). But, hey, it's my first time being accused of Trolling (and by an Elf, yet!), and I've been consistantly off-topic here at the Filter as long as I've been User #206.

I was just tryin' to be funny. Sorry Wendell. I didn't want to smack you down. I was just commenting on the general Uselessness of Epinions-either you get people trying to be funny, or people who just have an ax to grind. Check out the Pokemon anime epinions-most of them are a constant exchange of "Pokemon is evil and bad for kids"-"Pokemon is cool! How can you say that?" instead of a review of animation quality, the English voice actors, plots, editing, or anything else that would affect me buying the tapes or seeing the show if I wasn't already familiar with the product.

The whole reason I thought of trolls, especially of the /. variety, is because some of them, although being blatantly off topic, are moderated up as funny instead of as, well, trolls or off-topic posts.

Yes, Elf, but if you recommend opinions and choose good ones you trust ... you'll get better quality to choose from. It ain't perfect by a long shot. But ... It does work.

Notes to Self: 1: Use smileys; it may save other posters from feeking they have to apologize. 2: Study Field Guide to Small Magical Beings to learn differences between Troll, Elf (Electric or Manual), Garden Gnome, Lucky Charms Leprechaun and Michael J. Fox. 3. Never never again post an off-topic comment to MY OWN TOPIC. 4. Organize a Webloggers get-together at NEXT year's Jumping Frog Festival, or at least at the Gilroy Garlic Festival coming up in July.
