This could have been so much better (or worse, depending on your sensibilities) than it is.

Metafilter. Smells like: fresh newsprint, hand sanitizer, baked beans in vinegar-tomato sauce, turbine oil and Marijuana.

The hashtags on these are cracking me up.

Metafilter. Smells like:

I would add old coffee, ozone, correction fluid, high-end whiskey, pet hair, and a whiff of someone's awesome leftover lunch from home coming from the green.

Back to the link, I came in morbidly curious and was left wanting at least twice as much content.

Metafilter smells like 18 pounds of illegally-obtained Red Leicester cheese.

In grade school, I carpooled with a couple of other kids whose house had a particular smell. It wasn't bad at all, it was just theirs. Once one of the kids showed us a fossil rock he was taking to show-and-tell, and we took turns taking close looks at it to see the crinoids. There was a little crushed black ball of something on the underside of the rock. Another girl said: "Wow! Look! It smells just like your house!" We all had to take turns sniffing the little dab of substance underneath and agreeing, yes, it did smell just like whatever his house smelled like. The boy denied this, and now that I think about it, we probably hurt his feelings. I'm terribly sorry. But I still can't imagine what that stuff was.

The smell of Exclamation! perfume will always remind me of the rooms of two entirely separate teenage friends of mine from the '90s, both of whom deserved better.

metafilter smells like the ancient CRT hooked up to an equally ancient windows xp machine in a humanities lecturer's shared office, a stack of political yard signs in a shed, twenty GPUs purloined by a googler for a machine learning experiment. all of these things have an undertone of recently-burnt THC vape oil.

As a child, I used to visit a great aunt who lived alone for about 50 years. She actually lived in the same small one bedroom apartment for those 50 years. As a kid, I thought her place smelled like 'about to die'. Never could quite place the smell of the place, but to a 10 year old, it smelled like death warmed over. Strange thing was, the place was immaculate. My bros and I were scared to touch anything it was so clean.

I loved it but a part of me kept thinking "was this Instagram set up by Michael Chabon"

Bath and Body Works Sun-ripened Raspberry was the signature scent of both my high school best friendcrush.... and all the cheerleaders, of which she definitely was not one.
