You've played the original first-person shooter game (1993), you've avoided the movie version (2005), now play the retrofitted two dimensional 2DOOM

If you like your 2D Doom clones from a top-down perspective and turn-based, there's also DoomRL.

This is really fun but I got stuck at a certain point where a collapsing floor dropped me into what looks like a boss room with no boss. Now I can't get out.

Oh, weird, I paused and unpaused and now I can walk out of the right side of the room.

It's a remarkably entertaining game. But the jump physics are kinda dead in an unsettling way.

The second time I died and had to restart the level, I was done. It's cute, but I got no time for that old school kind of crap.

<pedantry>
Doom wasn't the first FPS. That would be one of Wolfenstein 3D, MIDI Maze, Maze War or Spazim, depending on how you define the genre. At the very least, Wolfenstein 3D qualfies.

suetanvil, not sure where that pedantry is coming from. No one has described DOOM as the first FPS, just linked to the original FPS version of the game.

OK this is really great. (Had to stop playing once I died because it will eat my afternoon otherwise.)
Thanks for posting!

What are those green bouncy pellets that appear whenever you kill a floating demon?

The post says it's "the original first-person shooter game." I suppose that sentence can be read more than one way, but I read it the same way that suetanvil did.

Have you heard of Abuse, my dudes?

Abuse is a run and gun video game developed by Crack dot Com and published by Electronic Arts in North America and Origin Systems in Europe. It was released on February 29, 1996, for MS-DOS.Playing the original shareware version was a revelation: it was one of the first mouselook support in games that I'd seen and the gameplay was relentlessly fast. If you like 2Doom, give Abuse a try.

If you like your Doom 2D but you would like it to be a little less 2D, may I present Linear Doom.

I was expecting this to be the "Flatland" version of Doom, but a side-scroller is nice too.

I'm looking forward to Cocktail Party Doom, where instead of shooting aliens you have to go round saying "Hello", "Hello, how are you", "Hello, nice evening" etc etc until it finishes and you get to go home.

This was pretty fun! I put it down because I died and got put back way at the beginning of a stage and didn't feel like doing everything over again.
But this is a good little platformer with excellent controls! Kept the good Doom 2016 feeling of keeping moving, finding secrets, and killing demons. All it needs is a few checkpoints to keep frustration at bay and this is something I'd pay to play as a longer version.

Nice. It needs a 'hold' button, so you can stand and aim and shoot. (unless I'm missing how to do that). But very cute. I still play Doom a lot to decompress. It's trully the Super Mario Bros of FPS's.
