Strictly spoken this is past Baroque and already belongs to, what we call, the Elegant Style (pretty clear in this example, no?).
This is what inspired Beethoven when he was young.

Like 15 years ago, I was hanging out with my sister and her then-boyfriend, and there happened to be this slide whistle sitting there. I picked it up and the boyfriend was like "play My Heart Will Go On!" So I played the whistle solo.
I didn't even know if I could play it, but I nailed it.
I basically peaked at 18, is what I'm saying.

Worth it for Tennis Ball Cannon-Newton's 3rd law // Homemade Science with Bruce Yeany of the Make your own slide whistle link. He seems like a fun science teacher.
he forgot to soak the tennis ball in lighter fluid

The little bit where he caught the slide hook on his waistcoat was a nice touch.

In the late 1700/early 1800 New England (according to my limited research), they used a square slide whistle as a pitch pipe for choirs. I made a copy of one similar to this one. I've seen them with the notes incribed along the top of the slide.
