I have long argued for letting Californians share the .ca domain with Canada, especially when the registrar can do things like this. Although I would have trouble coming up with Very Californian stereotypes to people them with ... yes, a surfer, an old fashioned movie director, a Dodgers baseball uniform or Lakers basketball outfit, Baywatch-style lifeguards, don't know how to depict high-tech (dressed as Steve Jobs?), and a California animal? Yeah, there's a bear on the state flag, but other possibilities- a grey whale or sea lion from the coast, a California Condor, most others are either pretty small or too common in other places. Could have famous movie/tv characters but not without fights between Disney and other rightsholders. Well, we're never going to work together with Canada, so nevermind.

I really really hate the CIRA “Don't be a traitor” ads. Threats of violence (even comedy violence) against those not willing to pay more for a .ca domain (with tiny recognition compared to .com) is offensive.
Also, CIRA are about the worst serial spammers. They still send me paper mail every time my .com domains are close to auto-renewing, as well as the usual email crap. They can, as the saying goes, go do one.

I feel the need to enjoy a refreshing glass of maple syrup.
In honor of the late Peter Tork, some Monkees fan created a shot called the "Connecticut Counterspy," which is a mixture of whiskey and maple syrup
I'm flashing back to the work my program did with the New York State Maple Growers' Association (We're Number Two!) and all the weight I probably gained from "disposing of" leftover swag.

I await the day where the Canadian sterotype is the Green Onion pancake or the Trindi Double Roti and not the god damned lumberjack.

Yeah, I came here to same something perhaps dismissive, because I'm Canadian and tend to find most Canuck cliches reductive and boring and ... anyway, I clicked on that "play on a meme" link and ... well, the title alone ...

I think the moose might be the actual moose from the Cucumber Club (the Children's Underground Club or United Moose and Beaver*). As I recall his name was just "Moose."
* This was a real show. I am not making it up.

Good on them for helping .ca websites meet the CanCon quotas that I assume are required as part of the registrar contract.

I really really hate the CIRA “Don't be a traitor” ads.
Yes. This. It’s disgusting.
The CIRA is not a government agency. It’s just some random company that has a monopoly for some unknown reason.
IME 99.999% of all .ca domains — including sites for certain crown corporations — are just redirects to a .com/ca subdomain, which you’re redirected to anyway if you access the .com from Canada. There’s no advantage to a .ca domain. None. It’s not like anyone with any sense is going to only get a .ca domain; that’s just asking to be spoofed. And that’s the only reason people register .ca domains — to either commit or prevent fraud. They should just abolish it already and save everyone the hassle.

are they still picky about who gets to register .ca domains? I remember some teeth-gnashing a few years back where some folks lost their domains cos not living in Canada or something like that?
