Sheena is a Monk Rocker

Ramones / Teenage Lobotomy (Buddhist monk cover)
The Beatles / Yellow Submarine (Buddhist monk cover)
Queen / We Will Rock You (Buddhist monk cover)
THE BLUE HEARTS / リンダリンダ (Buddhist monk cover)

From a YouTube channel named Kossan1108. I don't know Japanese, so I know very little about this guy. But when YouTube recommends a video of a Buddhist monk playing a Ramones cover, you click on it.

He also has a live version of the Queen song (at a Tokyo club called The Red Shoes), as well as several shamisen performances at an Okinawa venue called Sound M's. And a helpful tutorial for making a face mask out of a towel.

The drum he plays is a wooden fish, a traditional Buddhist instrument.

(Here's the original version of the Blue Hearts song. Apparently they were a Japanese punk band, active from 1985–1995.)

The Blue Hearts are great! Here's another good song of theirs, called "Hito ni yasashiku".

That Teenage Lobotomy video was somehow exactly what I needed to see today. It was a tonic!

Loved how at the end of the Blue Hearts cover the video just keeps going until all the reverberating overtones fade away.

Their song inspired a 2005 movie, "Linda Linda Linda" (trailer).

It's also a stage in the Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan videogame.

LINDA LINDAAAHHH!!!!

Best karaoke song ever! The way it starts out slow... and then explodes with energy. And yeah, that Linda Linda Linda movie is one of my favorites. It has a languid, thoughtful pace and a nice story, with atmospherics that make you really feel the.. humidity.. of the summer days in Japan. Plus it includes my favorite cover of the song.

I found them via the opening to the Rolling Girls anime, which is a J-pop cover of that very song. I still like that show even though it’s objectively not great, and I think it’s mostly because of that theme song.
