I just watched the trailer. I love how they don't show mothra and try to keep MOTHra's identity secret even asking as the final question "What kind of creature is MOTHra?" Guess I'll need to see the movie to find out!
I have a distinct memory of Mothra being black and white as a kid now am trying to figure out if that is a completely false memory or if there's some way that could have happened.

Here's the Japanese trailer.
They're not so cagey about hiding who/what Mothra is. The trailer is basically....here. Here you go. Here is Mothra. Enjoy.

I chuckled at this meme when I saw it on Twitter yesterday morning, and when it popped back up today thought "well, I've heard dumber ideas in the past 24 hours."
I had forgotten Mothra's cocoon looks like a giant peanut.

Mothra is the best! She ravishes the universe for love! Really though, I'm not so much a kaiju fan as I am a fan of Ishirō Honda, so the later incarnations of Mothra, Godzilla and the rest often don't do as much for me (save for Ryûhei Kitamura's Godzilla: Final Wars), until Hideaki Anno's take on the mythos. Is it too much to hope for a Shin Mothra?

Mothra was the first Japanese film I ever saw. I've only seen it dubbed; always wanted to hear the original, even a little bit -- thanks Fizz.

I just... love Mothra! My favorite kaiju movie ever. I had the Mothra song the fairies sing as my ring tone for the longest time!

mark k - well depending on how old you are, it might be because you first saw Mothra on a black & white TV, like me.
my family was very late in acquiring a color television, i saw most entertainment in B&W until the '80s.

Let's let John Cale weigh in on this one: John Cale: Mothra
I'm not sure it's his best work but does reward a fair listening and it links two things I really love (John Cale and Mothra) that I never expected to ever have any connection at all ever. Ever.

(1) The Peanuts, who had a continuing busy side gig as the Mothra fairies, remain my thirdmost favorite Japanese female vocal duo, after Pink Lady and Petty Booka. My band covered Koi No Vacance, and I wanted to cover Hey Kapʻn, Fehr Nacht Hawaii (sp?) as well.
(2) I always wanted to re-enact the original unhatching-of-Mothra scene, what with itʻs cast of a thousand (or so it seemed) brownfaced "native" ceremonial-orgy dancers getting high and jiggy on the LSD-spiked Pepto Bismol (or so it seemed). Couldnʻt find it on the YouTubes, dagnabit.
