I think I went to some of these festivals. Maybe Lolapalooza ‘92?

I got David Bowie and Van Morrison headlining. I would totally go to that, despite Van's mixed record with live shows.
I mean, I would go to anything with Bowie headlining.
(I tried to copy the whole lineup but lost it to the click.)
The links to the live clips make this cooler than just autogenerated line-up lists.
This is fun - thanks for posting this, thatwhichfalls!

I generated five festivals and four of them had Queens of the Stone Age in one of the top two slots. Nothing against QOTSA, but that’s pretty impressive for a band that was formed in 1996.

THE REEF ALCOPOP STAGE
METALLICA
THE OFFSPRING
NEIL YOUNG
CROWDED HOUSE
GANG STARR
PRIMAL SCREAM
ECHO AND THE BUNNYMEN
I'm pretty sure I saw this combination grouped together in the same area on a sheet of Columbia House stamps.

It took five refreshes before a 3rd wave ska-punk band showed up. I reject this revisionist history of the 90s, in all its horn-sectionless shame.

The It's A Scream Yellow Card Stage:
R.E.M.
WARREN G
TONY BENNETT
PHISH
DONOVAN
THEY MIGHT BE GIANTS
DR JOHN
16 HORSEPOWER • BETTIE SERVEERT • THE BOO RADLEYS • CARL COX • CHUMBAWAMBA • DRIVE LIKE JEHU • FELA KUTI AND EGYPT 80 • IAN BROWN • THE JAZZ PASSENGERS • THE KELLY FAMILY • MC CLEVELAND WATKISS • MUDSHARK • THE NUBILES • PELE • RADIAL SPANGLE • RICHARD THOMPSON • ROSITA • SHAKESPEARS SISTER • TANITA TIKARAM • TERRY HALL • TINDERSTICKS • URBAN SPECIES • THE WARM JETS
Some of these performers I haven't listened to since the 90s! I'm surprised that Sub Sub (precursor band to Doves) didn't do a 90s UK festival. It's the only thing I can conclude after clicking quite a few times now. But I did see Beck and Ian Dury, Soul Coughing, Regurgitator, and a few other bands I really dug from those days who aren't so famous anymore, like Gomez.

This is glorious, it's reminding me of all the smaller bands I saw at Bradford student union, or had a couple of coloured vinyl singles of. Would be even better if you could set it to rule out a name or two (cough Rolf Harris and Coldplay cough)

Couldn't get nine inch nails to pop-up I guess they're not in the database.
Also was New Order touring all that much in the 90s? They're such an 80s band to me.
And Coldplay? Didn't Parachutes got released in 2000?
Maybe in the UK.
Nowl excuse me while I go put some Prodigy.

Middle Aged Nostalgia presents...
Ouch!
Looking through these, I realize the ‘90s was the last time I could reliably identify all the headliners (and many of the second-stagers) on a festival poster. Huh.

It'd have been fun to have the acts sorted by their popularity in the 90s instead of present day (according to the footer, from Spotify). Then we could see up-and-coming acts like Coldplay at the bottom of the bill!

Coldplay threw me as well, but I looked and they were formed in 1996 and released Parachutes in 1999 so 🤷🏼♂️
My bestest festival headliner pairing was Tool / Kylie Minogue.

This is really amazing. I didn’t go to very many of these festivals, I’d seen most of these bands play in small SF clubs and in some cases house parties (note how much cooler I am than you), but the line-ups absolutely ring true and I love clicking through to see actual concert clips. Long live the Blockbuster Video Stage!

BLINK-182
BOB DYLAN
Mine had Sonic Youth at the bottom of the bill. No way! They were headlining for sure.
I'm annoyed by this because it reminded me of the existence of the Fun Lovin' Criminals and now I have their hit "Scooby Snacks" stuck in my head. AND NOW YOU ALL DO TOOOO

I could probably be convinced to put up with a huge festival if supporting (!) artists included Broadcast, The Orb, Pavement, and Spiritualized. The other stage - the Kellogg's Corn Pops stage - had Nirvana, Galaxie 500, Killing Joke, and Paradise Lost, but then it also had Korn and the Dave Matthews Band, so I'm a bit more conflicted about that one.

Having been to a few/several UK festivals in the late 90s, this is entirely correct, yes.

Yeah, doesn't look like NIN played a UK festival in the 90s. I saw New Order (somehow second from top of the bill) play one of my all-time favourite shows at Reading in 1998, one of the best-ever moments when they brought out the Joy Division songs...people around me were crying...
