Orgasms are among the most wonderous and pleasurable events we experience as human beings.

Maybe. I just ate a plate of bacon alone in my apartment and went to bed early.

Having owned rats. And having, accidentally, put a female in the cage. Yes. Loud and squeaky. Next question?

Obviously, we do not know what it feels like to be another animal (Nagel, 1974). In fact, our empathy and intuition take us only so far in inferring the feelings of other people.

Dang.

Have not yet read TFA. Came in to say that I know not one but two biologists who know a thing or two about rat sex. One physically demonstrated lordosis to me ("it looks like this!") and the other referred to it as "the booty out dance." I will ask them their opinions on this article and report back.

Sorry, that quote was pulled from another thread, but I think it's relevant here as well.

"In the beginning, we were ordinary street rats, stealing our daily bread, and living off the efforts of man's work. We were captured, put in cages, and sent to a place called NIMH. There were other animals there, in cages. They were put through the most unspeakable torture, to satisfy some scientific curiosity. Often, at night, I would hear them cry out ..."

the context reminds me a bit of Doctor Rat by W Kotzwinkle.

Ahem...except that they incorrectly attribute it to "The" Buzzcocks. Honestly, if they can't get that right how can they expect us to take the rest of the paper seriously?!

Honestly though I thought the abstract and intro had some ok framing but maddeningly seemed to completely ignore the baseline and reasonable expectation that OLR are ostensibly ubiquitous among mammalia, based on centuries of received knowledge, across several orders of non-primate mammals.

Be sure to read or skim far enough to read the details of how researchers stimulated at least one female rat with "a #4 camelhair paintbrush."

I had a chemical engineer friend who worked for some big pharma company working on one of the many erectile dysfunction drugs that were all the rage at the time. She said she had a hard time keeping a straight face in the meetings where they discussed the various erection statistics of their rat test subjects.

So rats must also be conscious too then, otherwise that orgasm is wasted.

of course rats like to fuck and orgasm, frankly disappointed by how basic this coomer research is

what i want to know is:

* do rats eat ass or give fot jobs? like what are their pleasures and kinks beyond basic penis stuff

* is it anatomically possible for rats to 69 each other?

* do rats get horny by watching rat porn? what would the porn hub of rat porn look like?

* after orgasm, does the dude rat have a sudden flight response, realizing he has to get up early for work tomorrow but he will totally call or something?

figure 3 on page 6 is straight up rat porn, you know someone had a fun day at the office flexing their drawing skills

They eat shit right out of their own ass on a daily basis as part of the regular and normal digestive process. I am sure they would eat ass of others if they could obtain consent

Rats are not cecotrophic; that's rabbits and other lagomorphs.

I have seen our pet rats carefully pick up poop with their teeth, carry it to the bars of their cage, and toss it out onto the floor below, though.

Another pet rat owner chiming in.

Yes. Enthusiastically yes. Oh my god, the horrors, the sexy rodent squeaking horrors. They might be the all time galactic champions of 69ing. In any gender combination, sometimes all at the same time if given the chance. Also loud and squeaky.

I'm not surprised by this news. What I'm perpetually surprised about is why the phrase is "fucking like rabbits". Rats make rabbits look positively reserved and Victorian.
