The National Abolition Hall of Fame and Museum in Peterboro, New York is offering a series of virtual daily “crash courses” on Black History. To comemmorate Black History Month a new video will be posted daily. They will be available on Facebook, Youtube, Twitter and Instagram. The stated goal of the series: “To provide critical context for the ongoing racial justice movements and the persistence of racism in America.” All access is free. Introduction. The Beginning: 1619-1712.

Peterboro is a sleepy place in the hills of central New York State whose present state belies its history as a center of Abolitionist activity, with individuals like the wealthy local activist Gerrit Smith leading the way. The National Abolition Hall of Fame, NAHOF, is housed in the imposing, steepled structure where the inaugural meeting of the New York State Antislavery Society was held in 1835.

Wow, this looks like a GREAT project. I am so looking forward to seeing all the videos as they come out.

I like that they link to so many resources in the description of the first main video - especially the 1619 Project Curriculum at the Pulitzer Center.

I also just like the fact that there's an Abolition Hall of Fame. I feel like halls of fame typically focus on pop cultural heroes - athletes and musicians. I like the idea of adding that kind of pop culture admiration to the reverent honor we have for heroes like Frederick Douglass.

This is great stuff, kinnakeet - thanks so much for sharing it with us!
