I can feel the influence of ContraPoints and PhilosophyTube in this video. It's a real YouTube style for sure.

I agreed with you th everything in the video except two points. I agree that daily usage can make one stop pushing forward with their life - and I'm OK with that because I'm trying to stop pushing myself so hard and just enjoy life. Second, I do try to keep a close eye on my depebdance and habitation - I don't want to feel like the joint is smoking me.

That said... I've been thinking about taking a break for a while. I got a bag of kava kava (great blended with cold hot cocoa powder) but I'm traveling next week and don't want to worry about withdrawal affecting my already bad travel sleep. But maybe after that?

I'm in recovery and I'm active in recovery, so this is where I live.

This was a frustrating watch. Too many strawman versions of much more solid arguments that aren't surfaced (on both sides), and it reads as inauthentic. Or, possibly the naive version of a much longer video that could be made with some feedback.

Having said that, the second half of the video, with it's description of what use disorder feels like is valuable, but not super deep. I suppose there isn't time to drill down hard on the functional definition of addiction in a 24 minute video.

Finally, even though the thesis of Johann Hari's journalism on Rat Park spoke really strongly to me and a number of people I've worked with, selectively quoting him as an authority without addressing the problematic aspects around that work is a bad mistake that, frankly, taints the entire video as lazy and superficial.

rebent - is kava available OTC/ storefront or do you 'need to know someone' ?

As for cannabis, I take a week off whenever, to recalibrate my tolerance - and the effects are better after a break. For me, cannabis has no detectable withdrawl.

Kava products are available OTC in the US.
