Phish ends Hiatus. The band will play four shows beginning with a New Year's show at MSG. Dirty neo-hippies everywhere rejoice.

Hey, maybe I'll get back into Phish now. Since Phish is a band that is best live, when they weren't playing shows they lost alot of their appeal.

HELL YES. And I'm quite clean, thank you.

As long as it gives their fans a place to go that isn't near me...

muckster, Can I interest you in a veggie burrito?

'tis a good thing. Trey's solo album was pretty amazing but it will be good to see what a little time away from each other will do to the band's crative process.

*suddenly feels incredibly ancient ...or is that ironic? . ...or something?*

Ha, ha, uftheory, the masterful jests that are made possible by your cunning grasp of cultural stereotypes!

And your quite right. Only stinking wookie tour rats rolling on molly could possibly enjoy the mastubatory meandering "jams," aimless cow funk, and warmed-over art rock aspirations of Phish. Better delete the threat right away, and all references as to where and when to buy tickets. Trey is Wilson. Phish sucks.

Sure... long, meandering hippie jams are corny, but give me Phish over anything playing on Pop radio any day.

I'm not much of a jam band fan, but Phish are astounding. I find them much more influenced by Zappa than the Dead, which is a very good thing. Phish also played in one of the best lineups of any show I've ever seen, at UMass Amherst in Spring '92:

Beastie Boys
Phish
Fishbone
fIREHOSE
Mighty Mighty Bosstones

I had a friend that walked around the parking lot in front of a show in KC one time and would walk up to the people who were going around saying "tickets" or "doses" or "bread" or "veggie burritos" and he would say really loud "soap, deoderant, shampoo". I thought it was damn funny.

I was there too, Ty Webb :) . It was the only time I've seen any of them live, and it was definitely a great show.

Ty, Songdog, they were looking for you, yesterday.

Anybody who says Phish sounds like the Dead have never heard either band play.

The only this similar is the smell of the concerts and perhaps the length of some of the songs.

Only stinking wookie tour rats rolling on molly...

Umm, could you clarify that statement?

I am neither dirty nor a hippy, but I am very glad Phish has decided to tour again..

for those who have never seen a show, if you can get past the lot rats(yes its hard), the shows are amazing... never have I been to a concert where every single song sends chills down my spine...

trey, mike, jon and page are possibly the best foursome ever assembled...

Man, Widespread's Mike Houser dies, Phish ends hiatus... This is a big week for jambands.

stinking wookie tour rats

now THAT'S a great band name.

I saw them live and became a fan. And I still use soap. Go figure.

Clean, non-hippie here (who hates the Dead), glad that Phish is touring again.

It's not that hard. It usually only takes three or four loud "Go fuck yourself!"s before people stop bothering--or for that matter talking to--you.

I love Phish, but the fans do tend to make me want to file my teeth into cruel shapes.

i, too, am on the clean side and am a fan of their music. the crunchies and wookies, though i can definitely do without, are actually fun to look/laugh at a show. it's rare that you see all that crunch in one place. crunch crunch.

i'm glad that they are coming back as i was expecting them to take a longer period of time off, but in recent interviews with trey he seemed like he was chomping at the bit to get back.

their is a lot to be said for a band that pretty much created an entire scene (jambands) on the heels of their popularity.

They're a great live band, but the Beatles are the greatest foursome ever assembled, not to mention the greatest band ever. No "possibly" about it.

even Ringo? ; )

Oh yeah? Well...

I love the Phish crowd because they really listen. I just hate that at the last few shows I went to, whole groups of people were talking and singing loudly along with the band. That's the sign of really not caring about the music -- destroying it with your wretched sing-along voice. Although, to refute the implication of a trend, I remember one in 96 where some jackass in the audience did harmonica practice the whole show, but at least that was weird.

This is one libertarian with a a conservative bent who followed Phish and Widespread Panic one summer who is glad they're back on the road.

...I am kinda stinky though.
