If you like heavy metal music you should consider checking out 𝐖𝐀𝐑𝐆𝐀𝐒𝐌, an electro-metal screamo-pop post-hardcore "nu metal" duo* with hints of riotgrrl and hip-hop and dub-step, fresh off winning Best UK Breakthrough Band at the 2021 Heavy Metal Music Awards. Suggested start: BACKYARD BASTARDS [cw: blood and violence and cheerleaders]

Taking their name from the L7 tune, 𝐖𝐀𝐑𝐆𝐀𝐒𝐌 sounds at times like Slipknot crossed with the Prodigy, filtered through through a sieve of post-boredom zeitgeist nihilism, and at other times, sardonic skewerers of the psycho-emotional techno-social wasteland singularity that we find ourselves trying to navigate on the daily. They have yet to release an album, so far only doing singles and collaborations, but oh, what singles!

LAPDANCE - A cover of the N.E.R.D. tune
SPIT. - an interesting variety of musical styles touched on through to the end; the black-and-white one
RAGE ALL OVER - helpfully subtitled; the red one
Your Patron Saints - I feel extremely seen and related when Sam announces himself as the patron saint of disappointment
PYRO PYRO - the green one

Note: There is an unrelated Boston band, active in the late 80s and early 90s also named Wargasm.

* core members are Sam Matlock on guitar and vocals, Milkie Way on bass and vocals, with Ryan Cornell on drums for live performances and getting murdered in videos

Strong Sleigh Bells vibe — in Backyard Bastards at least. I look forward to checking out the rest on my run tomorrow morning.

Wow--if I had to describe "BACKYARD BASTARDS" in two words, it would probably be "Splatterpunk Babymetal."

Sleigh Bells meets Die Antwoord on the set of a lesser known Troma film.

That is a compliment and I love it.

Oh wow, you've helped me find a new thing, thanks! I love this.

Jaunty tune that Backyard bastards. Ans I love the cheerleaders outfits. Somehow they always get the color of the blood wrong in most films and videos. Should be a bit darker...

Thanks. (Thought I'd heard this name before; then again, I'm getting older ...)

In the FPP I linked all the videos from their YouTube channel that had "official music video" in the title. There's like 6 more they have up there that are merely "official audio" so I left those for the deep divers. Of those "Gold Gold Gold" is my favorite. "Salma Hayek" is a banger too. Then there's approximately 3 collabs that I haven't tracked down yet, presumably they're on someone else's YouTube channel.

I hope they hurry up and press an album so I could buy it and quit recording the audio off youtube engaging legally with a licensed streaming provider. A couple days ago there was no merch up on their website, just a "coming soon" banner, but now that I've checked it again they've got some shirts and patches and stuff.

They will be touring in the USA with Enter Shikari coming up in Spring of 2022, which is how I found out about them (I am a huge Enter Shikari fan as my FPP history reveals). I saw the name and was like "Oh gawd I bet they're yet another cringey hyper-toxic hyper-masculine military-worship death-cult metal band" but when I saw pics of them at the heavy metal music awards, I Googled them and was blown away. Only some of that was true! 😉

> "Nu Metal".. not Heavy Metal.

I'm not a big fan of this label, or genre over-prescription myself, but the bassist/vocalist Milkie Way uses it in a sample on their "God Of War" track so I just deployed it here as kind of a broad catch-all term.

Sleigh Bells, eh? Now I have something to check out.

You may recognize vocalist/bassist Milkie Way from her work as the face of Mister Donut's Cotton Snow Candy from 2018.

I'd also like to add Atari Teenage Riot as a sonic reference.

See also: Rabbit Junk for very similar mix of synthmetal/breakcore from 10-15 years ago (and oh shit, they had a new single release last week!)

Also shout out to similar vibe Genghis Tron for having silly fun classics like Laser Bitch back in 2004, then putting out an absolute cybergrind masterpiece of Board up the House in '08 and coming back with a swirling wonder of a followup Dream Weapon just a few months ago.

Gentle reminder not to use alternate characters in your text. It's bad for accessibility.

re: Atari Teenage Riot

As a teenager I saw ATR probably around 1997 in a small club and them and their opening act EC8OR and it was the loudest show I've ever been to before or since. There might have been one other band too, it was a long time ago. But by the time ATR came out the entire club was thoroughly blown out and most folks were hanging out along the walls and at the back of the club. Only time I ever needed earplug at a show just to stay in the building.

The only other thing I remember is the lady singer for EC8OR had a schtick where she would put her mic up under her skirt and hold it between her thighs, out of sight, and walk around on the stage staring down at us in a manner of "ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED?"

New music video: Salma Hayek, looking a homage to Tarantino's From Dusk Till Dawn
