When Harry Reid was Gaming Commissioner, he reported a man to the FBI for trying to bribe him. They set up a sting operation, and as soon as the cash was about to be handed over, the former boxer Reid screamed, "You son of a bitch! You tried to bribe me!", and nearly strangled the man until agents tore him off to make the arrest.
The point is, this videotape of Harry Reid choke-slamming a mafia money man exists. It's never surfaced. My fervent hope is that we see it now.

from the main link:
Born into poverty in the tiny Nevada town of Searchlight, where the two industries were mining and prostitution, Reid transformed his shame over his hardscrabble roots into the central narrative of his political career.

I stumbled across this story about him from a Paul Wellstone staffer on Twitter today and thought it gave a good sense for the kind of man he was (or at least tried to be).

Compare and contrast: Harry Reid in 1979, then on the Nevada Gaming Commission, being confronted by the mobster Frank Rosenthal; and the same scene as dramatized in the movie Casino.

It was a shame when he retired, but he was like an elderly grandfather these last few years, getting hurt in nasty falls. He will be missed.

A really lovely tribute from photographer Pete Souza. It’s worth reading the whole story.
