After doing audio production services for The Arboria Institute*, Benge from Memetune Studio has released TMP-01 Vintage Synth TV Series.

Extremely my jam. Like Alex ball with more commitment to hitting the 80’s BBC documentary vibe. The deliberate pacing and editing is such a welcome contrast.

Made that first comment halfway in. Now that I’m done I have to say - holy hell does Benge have a primo collection of unobtainable instruments. At one point he was using an ARP 2500 as a drum machine. I had assumed they were only good for contacting alien life forms or accessing the astral plane. Sounded great.

I suspect that this production does not take itself entirely seriously. It is, however, gloriously well made. The analogue VFX wouldn't look out of place in a Boards of Canada video

Coincidentally (or not), NoiseCraft just popped up on HN earlier today.
A web-based modular drum machine. It's incredible!

Sent to my brother who runs a synth repair (and synth pop band How To Live Together) out of Grand Rapids. He loved it and of course drooled over unobtaininstruments featured.

Not watching TFV because that's not my style.
But this caused me to go looking for a streamable version of Switched-On Bach and to wonder why it is that Wendy Carlos insists on keeping it out of print. Somebody should make a FPP about that.

As much as I’d love to stream some Carlos (Beauty and the Beast is an all time fave), WC seems to want to stay out of the spotlight right now, and even a FPP feels needlessly invasive. Her partway inclusion in Sisters With Transistors made me aware of how private she’s been in the last few decades. Crossing my fingers tho.

It definitely doesn’t, but Look Around You has kind of ruined this format for me for dealing with actual information, I keep waiting for the other shoe to drop and for the diagrams and voiceover to descend into deadpan nonsense.
Still, superbly executed!

I started watching the first episode and got to the part where the host explains that he doesn’t consider himself a keyboard player and prefers external sequencers. Then a ginormous sequencer appeared above the host’s Model D, and without thinking I moaned “Fuck, that’s hot.”

This is amazingly well-produced.
But man, Moog rhymes with vogue.
