40 years of short documentaries from Spain

A video showing how rope was made before modern machines (spanish, with english subtitles) leads down a rabbit hole.
Eugenio Monesma made short documentaries in Spain for 40 years about old trades and crafts, low-tech building methods and materials, traditional musical instruments, local food and drink and traditional clothing.
Some highlights:
This is how the traditional knife is made on the Canary Islands.
This is how olive oil is pressed with the help of a donkey.

Ah! Like 'Hands' but for Spain instead of Ireland. Cool find/share. Thanks!
P.S. If you've never encountered any of the 'Hands' films before, highly recommended.

I found that rope-making strangely transfixing. The casual-looking approach that belies the incredible level of control they actually have over the process.

Thanks for sharing! I had seen a few of these over the years but it never occured to me that they were somehow connected, much less that there were two hundred of them!

When I was a kid we had several of the Foxfire books which were pretty interesting to browse. I wouldn't mind having them now.

The making of eyeglass frames, not well translated but you get the gist. So many steps and very cool results. They are still in business and frames (without lenses) are a little over 100 € which sounds like a fantastic bargain to me. Grao-Gayoso in Zaragoza which is just west of Barcelona.

I fell down this rabbit just a couple weeks ago! I was looking for information about making tar in the olden days, specifically for nautical uses and man, I was not disappointed. The end result is so beautiful, and at least for me, unexpected.
