You gotta promise, Miles.

Interesting and reassuring choice for the trailer to center the parent-child interaction the way it does. The first movie was fantastic, both for its stylistic experimentalism and it's emotional weight. It's probably over-simplifying to say that the first point is the flash and the second the substance, but...I'm glad they're emphasizing the second.

I mean... yes? Of course! Trying to think of all the spiders we saw in there including SM2099.

Is Spider-Man 2099 the bad guy here? As a big fan of Peter David's run with the character (and the 2099 imprint in general, at least the first few years) I have trepidations.

I will certainly watch this.

This cannot be said for most movies, I am terrible at actually watching even things I am interested in seeing (like, I still haven't watched Knives Out even though it is totally something I would watch.)

I will certainly watch this.

That's what I got from the trailer as well, which confused me! Feel like I should go downstairs and grab my 2099 issues and give them a read.

I loved the first movie a lot despite not being a superhero comics fan or reader to any inside baseball extent, so I am super thrilled that a sequel is finally coming out!

Miles/Spider-Gwen yaaassssssssssss

The Miles & Mom parts too, and the Spiderverse plot, but I'm totally down for this for that 'ship.

That first move was absolutely my favorite superhero film, I hope they didn't decide they could substitute explody for dialogue in this one. We'll see.

I usually take this as a given, but out of morbid curiosity, I went and peeked...and saw nothing negative. At all. I scrolled down a long way and saw nothing but people saying how great this looked, how much they loved the first one and how much they were looking forward to this one. The closest thing to a complaint was someone noting the absence of Spider-Ham.

Were the negative folks just first on the scene and now thoroughly drowned out?

I hope I feel okay going to a movie theater by whenever this comes out. Previous one was one of my best theatrical film experiences in the last x years.

The phenomenon of the shitlords jumping on something and being obnoxious in the fervent hopes of shaping the narrative about the new whatever is apparently inextinguishable. Oh, well.

Anyway, yeah, here's hoping that Miles doesn't become yet another comic-book orphan. And it would also be cool if what was implied by Earth-Miles' Aunt May referring to that universe's Doctor Octopus with the familiarity of "Livia" is somehow followed through on, hint hint fucking hint.

Yes I need the doomed May/Livia romance also.

Unless that wasn't what you meant.

But still Angry Lesbian Exes Blowing Shit Up needs to happen somewhere.

Anyway, the first movie was so fucking gorgeous, especially after the last two Very Gloomy Infinity War movies, plus great writing, that it was such a pleasure to watch. Can't wait.

The Miles & Mom parts too

It stuck me on my ... fifth? rewatch of the trailer that it looks like this movie is going to explore Miles' relationships with women. The first movie, the driving relationships were Miles and his dad, his uncle, and Peter B Parker.

Also, Miles' mom's monologue here hits really hard, speaking as the father of a 5yo boy who is already sort of dealing with a difficult social environment.

Trying to think of all the spiders we saw in there including SM2099.

Peter and Miles from the recent Sony vidyagame (the fantastic one) can be seen walking together in that first reveal shot, along with Betty Brant as Spider-Girl (from What If #7), a Spider-Man wearing the Scarlet Spider hoodie outfit, a Spider-Man wearing the Spider-Armor Mark II suit, a Spider-Man wearing the Spidey stealth suit, a Spider-Man dressed up as the Spectacular Bag-Man, and Spider-Wolf (from the original Spider-Verse comics). In the "Miles getting chased" sequence, you can see Flash Thompson as Captain Spider (from What If again), a Spider-Man in the second Scarlet Spider outfit (Kaine's Spider-costume), the Fantastic Five Spider-Man and the Ezekiel "last stand of Spider-Man" suit from ASM #600. Most of the others appear to be new inventions.

There's a Spider-Man with a paper bag over his head, which happened in one comic -- maybe a Marvel Team-Up? -- where he helped the Fantastic Four and his uniform got messed up, so Reed lent him one of the FF's. Which don't have a mask, so Johnny Storm helpfully provided the paper bag. And, if memory serves me correctly, a "kick me" sign.

My most anticipated movie of 2023

I saw the first one in a Brooklyn movie theater packed with Black families (Not intentionally. Our time off from work/school just coincided.) and by the end of the room the air was just...clear. These kids had finally FINALLY gotten a major superhero movie with themselves at the center; where they felt absolutely seen. We could all feel how special that was.

And now the trailer for this follow-up movie? And Miles' mom telling him, "What I worry about most is that they won't look out for you like us."? This is what I needed to hear.

(I also need to hear Kathryn Hahn taunting the Spider-Thems, but hey the trailers don't need to reveal everything.)

The Leap Of Faith scene in the original is among the best payoff scenes I’ve ever seen in a movie.

These kids had finally FINALLY gotten a major superhero movie with themselves at the center; where they felt absolutely seen. . From what I recall, one of the reasons Shamelik Moore took the voice role of Miles Morales was because he knew how important having a Latino/Black mixed race young hero was going to be for a lot of kids.

Amon the other amazing, spectacular things he does is leap over that gap between buildings he couldn't clear before, and he makes it and then some.

Then he eyes the Kingpin's tower, pulls down his mask, and starts webswinging towards it.

[SMASH CUT TO] Miles' Spider-Man comic book dropping on top of the pile.

In that sequence, with no dialog except flashback voice overs, he becomes Spider-Man. Yeah.

Possibly - I had seen things like: "I hope this isn't woke" and other more racist comments about Miles - within the first 20-30 comments and replies. If they are no longer there, then thanks to the community for burying them.

Nthing the most-awaited flick of '23 feels.

Is there a continuity in one or several of the Spidey mags I can find in TPB form that'll get me up to speed on all the parallel versions of Spider-[X]? I'm decades away from the last time I regularly read any a Spider-Man title but enjoyed the heck out of SM:ItSV.

To my amusement, the Randomlet (9yo and loved the first movie enough to see it three times) professes to be unimpressed: not enough Peter Porker. "Spider-Ham is the best Spidey!"

Yay! I saw the first one with a group of teenagers from my old job who quickly abandoned any pretense of "coolness" and spent the entire afternoon before/during/after the movie in a state of childlike glee. They were also psyched to fill me in on all the comic book lore that I didn't know. That afternoon is one of my favorite pre-pandemic memories, so I am psyched to see the sequel (though sadly not with the same group of kids).
