ALL GLORY TO THE HYPNOTOAD, the unofficial mascot of the Texas Christian University HornedHYPNO Toads football team, which is having an improbably good run this season. (SLNYT / archive.today)

The hype video in the article is a thing to behold as it manages to cram a lot of awesome into forty-five seconds. Sadly, it appears to be unlinkable. As a consolation prize, witness that scene in Willy Wonka where Gene Wilder is clearly under the influence of a certain amphibian.

Just in case you were interested in the hypnotoad drone and taking a very deep dive on how it was constructed, this guy has you covered:

It’s a lizard, not an amphibian, dammit!

Drone: One of my audio channels makes that noise unless I plug something into the input. (I still haven’t figured out what is feeding back. Did not think to check for toads.)

I'm currently rewatching all of Futurama for the 4th (5th? 6th?) time, I think you know why.

I grew up a bit west of Ft Worth. Horny toads (as we called them) were in our neighborhood. They move slow and are easy to pick up and hold; they're pretty docile. We would help them find ants. They're not longer present there. Alas.

I demand that mass hypnosis be restored to its original and natural place, politics.

While horned lizards cannot hypnotize you they can shoot blood out of their eyes, which is pretty metal.

Neuron you will be happy to know of multiple programs aimed at restoring horned lizards to their habitats like this one.

In addition to re-introduction programs, apparently horned lizards have been introduced to the South Carolina coast. As always when it comes to moving species around I do not know if it is a good thing, but certainly seems more benign than, say, pythons in the Everglades.
