I do not like asmr but I was delighted to watch a panda eating an apple. It looked fake because I think that's the first non-caricature of a panda I may have ever seen.

I tagged this with “asmr” because one of the videos describes itself that you, but I don’t actually think any of them fit the classic definition. These aren't quiet sounds, they’re big ol’ crunches.

Bamboo scronching requires some adaptive infrastructure: like an opposable thumb to hold the stick. As Stephen J Gould pointed out many years ago, the Panda's thumb is a hyper-developed wrist bone.

came in here to express my gob-smackedness that pandas have thumbs, only to see the comment from BobTheScientist above. Thanks!

One of the best presents Mrs. Example has ever gotten me is one of those zoo experiences where you go into an enclosure supervised by a zookeeper and get to feed the animals. We got to hand-feed slices of pear and bits of bamboo to a red panda named Tilly. (There was another red panda, but he was having none of the strangers in his space, so the zookeeper fed him.) It was a good day.

One side of your mouth full of bamboo? No problem, just switch to the other side and keep chewing!

We went to Washington DC a few years ago and visited the zoo. I could have watched the pandas for 3 days.

I like how adept this panda is at peeling off the outer (less tasty? Less digestible?) layer in order to get to the good cronch below.
