OMG Sonny grew a beard. I worked on one of his tours a decade+ ago. Good times.

Note, it's silent for the first two minutes. I was reloading, wondering what was broken!

So they're here as promised on Fred Again...'s discord, but I don't find any public notice of shows anywhere!

Seriously what the hell happened to Skrillex? I know he's been through some serious shit and I rarely comment on anyone's appearances, but he looks like he's been to the gym and, uh, dabbling in gear and he's leaning really hard into that generic tech-house bro kind of look.

I'm confused as fuck because I can barely even recognize him. When they pointed to Sonny in the opening bit I was like "Get the fuck out of here, that's not Skrillex!"

It wasn't until he start DJing and actually moving around did I barely kind of recognize him because he has a recognizable and frenetic stage energy once he starts hitting buttons and twisting knobs.

That was so much fun. I did a bit of DJ'ing back in the day, and that crazy bouncing stage just about triggered me because needles would bounce across turntables sometimes when party really got to bouncing and it was always a moment.

As SunSnork said, perfect background to a little weekend desk work. Just what I needed to get going. Thanks

Yeah, this is one of the really cool parts about modern DJing. No need to worry about bass feedback to the turntables or needles, no floor bounce if you're in an old bouncy loft.

Nerdy DJ side note, I just learned the other day that the Technics 1200 Mk2 series and up really doesn't like it when you remove the rubber platter mat and replace it with a plain slipmat. That rubber mat is part of the feedback prevention and isolation system and the steel platter rings and resonates at something like 100-120 hz.

Which would explain why bass feeedback was such a problem for so many vinyl DJs, because almost every pair of 1200s I ever met just used a slipmat on the bare platters. I think I saw a DJ with the slipmats on top of the rubber mat just a couple of times in my life, and they'd do it wit two slip mats with wax paper or plastic between them on top of the rubber platter mat.

That low frequency feedback thing is peculiar to vinyl, I didn't realise it was actually specific to Technics decks. I suppose you just don't see any other brand of turntable in any club, party or event, even though there are now good alternatives to the 40 year old design.

It's nice to see Kieran Hebden keeping the underground sound alive, while the other two just play their own tunes. He performs a welcome counterbalance to the pop music.
