10,000 Gecs, by 100 Gecs - 26min (Soundcloud, Youtube) Pitchfork review - it has furthered their interest in thrash guitars, ska revival, and pop-punk that generally sounds quantum-leaped in from a turn-of-the-century Hot Topic. You thought you loved computer glitch but, my friends, have you met slap bass?

Hot off the presses Boiler Room set, answering the question of "What would a DJ set that's maximally gecs while mostly avoiding their own songs look like?

I’m happy for everyone who enjoys 100 gecs. This is how listening to them makes me feel.

Once I heard the intro sting from Ringtone as a break on Weekend Edition and I lost my mind

Each album they get more gecs or maybe they become more gecs? Whatever they are doing, I'm glad they are furthering all geckind.

I love music that makes you stop partway through a song and think to yourself "yea, I am listening to music". I've already bought tickets to see them when they come through town.

I am, theoretically, too old for this shit. And yet.

(Also, the link to the Boiler Room set is a link back to the “Doritos and Fritos” video. Maybe this?)

[listens to Doritos and Fritos]

we must prepare ourselves, for the Fourth Wave of Ska is upon us, as was foretold in the prophecy

I enjoyed 50% of the last album but this album is too close to pop punk for me. I guess I just can’t handle this magnitude of gec.

Same. As an aging rocker I give these songs my strongest possible endorsement.

Frog on the Floor is an endless delight.

I thoroughly enjoyed the first album and think that Dylan Brady and Laura Les accidentally captured lightning in a bottle with 1000 gecs. It was a surprise hit and worked marvelously because it was this silly personal thing where they could genre-jump ad libitum or even just throw stuff in there, a kid with a casiotone might improvise.

It should not have been this hit record (in certain circles, of course) that turned the gecs probably into the most recognizable group for the whole hyperpop genre. (It helped that the whole album is quite catchy throughout, too, of course.)

So how do you follow up on that? (Well, a remix album, alright, but how do you follow up on THAT with a second studio album?!) I imagine it very difficult to intend to create an album like 1000 gecs that recaptures the happy accidents of the debut. 10,000 gecs isn't that, and I don't think it ever could have been (major label or not).

I'm very happy that many people seem to enjoy it, however, and I'm always happy about more gecs. Even if this album is maybe too pop punky and smooth for me overall. I'm looking forward to (presumably) 100,000 gecs and I doubt even that to be too many gecs for me.

(Plus, Frog on the Floor was clearly the song this world was missing.)

I don't know if I'm into it yet, but this one feels like a Girl Talk album even though it's composed with original music.

this album is a lot more listenable than their first one (to me), but i came of age rocking venetian snares. Anyway I quite like the Gecs, they seem cool. I hope their next album is 1 million gecs.

Fourth Wave of Ska is upon us,

I get that but I am a little surprised it has such a Konami vibe.

I like a few gecs on occasion, I'm wondering if maybe 10^(gec) might be next.

Okay I popped into this post about an hour ago and I haven't stopped listening to them yet.

I have no idea who this band is, except they saved me a bundle by convincing me not to insure my car

One bonus of being old is you can say you heard people before they were famous, and technically I did - in the sense that I listened to Dylan Brady’s stuff on SoundCloud in 2014-2015. But listening to it I did sincerely think “this guy could be big” so I’ve been rooting for them since - well, since I figured out the guy in that gecs band was the same guy.

I think the first album was maybe better? (Reminder that Pitchfork’s editors, not writers, set the scores, and they slept on the first one despite the critic's love.) But I am gonna spin this one still my ears fall off. gecs 4 life

Ok, I've listened for a bit, and I can tell this is going to be an obsession or I'm going to bounce hard off it. Don't know which yet, but thanks for sharing!

I enjoyed listening to this for a few minutes, and wouldn't mind if it came on at a bar while playing pinball, but I can only handle so much autotune/vocoder vocals.

I'm so happy that bands doing this kind of fun, outrageous music can still claw their way to a fair amount of popularity and visibility in this age of algorithmic post-disintermediation.

OK, like I know it was almost a quarter century ago but 'turn of the century' now referring to 2000 instead of 1900 is just... Wow.

I've finally gotten around to listening to this, as a huge latter-day fan of 1000 gecs, and I really like it. Different album but wonderfully energetic and weird in exactly the vein of "hyperpop but extremely hard" that I already associated with the bands. I played "Frog on the Floor" and "One Million Dollars" for a friend today to try and showcase the two poles of accessibly goofy and absolutely hostile weirdness, though I don't claim those are canonical termini on the spectrum so much as just good characterizations.

I love the PC Music group/label/whatever to death and honestly 100 gecs feels like the apotheosis of marrying that hard-edge twee and dada weirdness to a heavy driving weirdness. It's fuckin' good.
