Ping-Pong against Parkinson's

One of the unnerving things about that strange ailment is how certain situations can suddenly make it seem to disappear. Singing for some people, for instance.

My out of-state siblings thought I was overreacting about the inability of our mom with Parkinson’s to live on her own because the moment she got on the phone to them she was perfectly fine. It wasn’t until they came to see her for themselves (and watched the transformation when she picked up the phone to talk to her stepdaughter) that they came around.

This Old House interviewed a carpenter with Parkinsons. He said the shakes stopped when he was using a hammer or drill. Link to episode

My son played a round of golf last week with someone with Parkinson's - I walked with them.

It was fascinating watching him 'play' his Parkinson's as much as he played the course, and talking about coping strategies. Settle, shake, abort , reset, settle again, swing. He did that 88 times, and never missed a shot. That can't just be coincidence.

He won, of course.
