“Song of Summer” by Uchikubi Gokumon Doukoukai is a song about warm summer weather
(prev., their song about winter weather and futons addressed similar, if inverted, themes. Their song about living on a cat planet is unrelated.)

I am in Tokyo and can confirm—it’s really freakin’ hot. The rainy season seems to be over and once all that cloud cover goes away it’s FOOMP! The humidity drops like a hammer. Supposedly gonna be a record breaker this summer, too.
Also, very funny song.

Thank you for posting this. I shared it with my fam in Louisiana because they've been having freakishly hot weather and are avoiding going outside at all.
And yeah, I grew up in Louisiana and then spent a year in Japan after college -- even in the north in Tohoku the summer heat and humidity was quite familiar (the winter snow up to my knees was NOT).

Is “sharpen up” in this context The equivalent of “steel yourself”?

I am feeling this video from the swampland of New Jersey, except that instead of when I leave the house it's when I leave the bedroom (no central AC).
Actually, because the house retains heat but lets moisture in via the basement, at night I also feel like this ENTERING the house from outside (where it is cooler or at least less humid).
Right now with the window AC going full blast it's STILL 81F / 27C and 60% humidity in the bedroom... And summer has just started... Definitely going to the "mountains or beach" a lot this summer.

I appreciate how, musically, this does some fun stuff. It's a rare example of a Japanese song that actually tries to have any sort of rhyme scheme at all, and I love the way that it plays with conventional expectations of when songs change, musically (i.e. after a set of four full measures) for comedy punchline purposes
