Big Ben word game

Big Ben word game [via mefi projects] "A unique puzzle for each second of the day, with lots of nice touches: the background fades between day and night based on London time, there's a satisfying bonnggg sound that shakes the game when you find a long word, fireworks if you clear the grid, etc. It also features a large dictionary and generously makes sure you don't get a Q without a U next to it."
Ha! This is cool and enjoyable.

I've never been great at word games, so perhaps my contribution is to point out the scoring is quadratic. Each letter is worth one point for every letter in the word. "so be it" is worth 12 points but "sorbet" is worth 36 -- three times as much! -- even though its the same number of tiles.

Also, if you clear the board, you get a bonus of 10x your average word length. That bumped my 223 up to 264.

on desktop i keep shorting myself by accidentally letting off the mouse button whilst i'm still dragging to make a longer word. i've never noticed this problem before.

This is great. I like how up-to-date the lexicon is (it took BAE, which is probably a stupid waste of vowels but what I needed at the moment).
