So this isn't an audience bootleg, but it isn't a pro-shot video. What it is, is a single camera direct-on shot of this 25th Anniversary production by Washington D.C.'s Shakespeare Theater Company of The Secret Garden [2h], based on the book by Francis Hodgson Burnett [Wikipedia, Archive.org], music and book by Lucy Simon and Marsha Norman [Wikipedia]. It's a beautiful production, the static shot works fine, and it features Tony Award winner Daisy Eagen, who won for playing Mary Lennox in the first production, as Martha in this performance along with many other excellent performers. posted by hippybear (5 comments total) 18 users marked this as a favorite

OH MY GOD I have always wanted to see the version with Daisy Eagan as Martha! I grew up listening to the original Broadway cast album on loop, it was the first cassette tape I owned that wasn't like Raffi or Sesame Street. American Girl Magazine did a feature on Eagan when she won her Tony and I thought she was so cool.

I can't believe I never found this video of it.

I saw the Los Angeles production of the what I think is a similar version to this staging last March (I planned an entire trip around seeing it). (Julia Lester was an exceptionally good Martha, like holy cow.)

Very cool! I, also, listened to the OBC album a ton, and I have Feelings about the changes they made for this production (Some good, some bad).
