Research into dingoes in the ACT

Little is known about the dingoes living in the Australian Capital Territory, but one researcher is trying to change that. Concerns have been raised over the current assumptions about the ACT's dingoes, and its hoped more understanding can help the animals coexist with humans and other species.

Few animals are as controversial as the dingo.

Not long ago someone on the local FB group posted a picture of a stray dog wandering down a street here in Belconnen (NW part of the ACT). My reaction-shared by others- was that it looked an awful lot like a dingo. Will be intriguing to learn more, thanks.

Wow, that first dingo is a gorgeous animal. What a coat. I didn't realize that coat variation in dingos was so diverse.

My 'dingo' (a cowdog with supposed dingo bloodlines from imported cowdog stock) had the typical red dingo coarse haircoat and build that usually comes to mind. At first glance she appeared a deep red all over, but when you ruffled her cheek hairs there was a hint of cream and there was cream in her pantaloons.

Lucy was a Good Girl, but very different than the other cowdogs I've had, or any other dog that I've ever been around. I hope much can be learned about coexisting with these critters.

You don't have to spend much time on K'gari (formerly Fraser Island) to be convinced the only way for dingos and humans to co-exist is to keep them separate. Dingos are wild animals and people are stupid, which is a dangerous combination. More dangerous to the dingos than the humans, of course.

Interesting to see the colour variations around Canberra - on K'gari there is no variation like that and all the dingos I've seen are the 'traditional' reddish colour and much leaner than those pictured in the article.
