Replying to myself to say that I deeply appreciate the visual, artistic, fashion pun that is that first column dress. It's also just a beautiful dress.

"Water Lilies" [New Yorker] was Céline Sciamma's first film, so it's nice to see an eponymous painting as inspiration for the dress most reminiscent of Sciamma's latest, Portrait of a Lady on Fire

I think the connection in the Chloe dress is very much the overall silhouette of the dress, but there might also be something in that detail that I can't see in the photo.

Why can't I see the connection on this one?
"So convinced is [Gabriela Hearst] by the convergence of positive change and clever thinkers that she believes there’s a chance of a new Renaissance around the corner... “I have to find a muse, and that is Artemisia Gentileschi, the Renaissance painter.” Viewers will seek in vain for the baroque costumes that might suggest." [Vogue] "...with every step, she’s pushing towards that goal of climate success."

mittens, it looks like jaquilynne is correct, the connection is in the silhouette and muted colours and I think there's also something going on there with the strong woman vibes of the model.

Mondrian was also the inspiration for the La Vie Claire cycling team in the 80s.
