Hopper's painting always feel like memories to me. I've never been to Gloucester, but I'm sure I've seen that house before.

Nice house, but a bit fancy for my tastes. Did Hopper ever paint more mundane subjects? Say, a diner?

The notion that a physical space should be preserved to match a painting made of it a century ago is very strange to me. The trees likely improve the quality of life of the residents, and I can’t complain about more housing. Orange doors or no.

From what I understand that painting also inspired the design of the house in Psycho(1960).
I've always liked Hopper's painting; the lonely vernacular of the American quotidian, through people and architecture was, I think, quite revolutionary at the time.

I've not seen this one before. There's an interesting contrast between the cheerful, sunny colors and the way that the angle makes the house look slightly ominous as it looms over its surroundings.

When reached for comment on these articles, the house complimented Mrs Cleaver's dress, but appeared to be thinking up a scheme.

I do not see a career in historic preservation in your future. Myself, I like the 1924 landscaping a whole lot more than the IRL version. Mixed metaphorically speaking, it looks like they took the whole wedding cake concept and ran with it. Out of the stadium, into the parking lot and across the tracks

Looks like the town buried the phone/electric wires because the pole is gone. Or maybe they just moved them to the other side of the street.

That was a different house/painting, The House by the Railroad, Haverstraw, NY.
