Basquiat and Keith Haring and William S Burroughs too: happy reanimated pride y'all!

You know that joke in Wayne's World about how Frampton Comes Alive! was given to every kid in the suburbs? Fatboy Slim's You've Come a Long Way, Baby is that for '90s kids. We all own it on CD even if we don't know why (I know why because I loved it).

This video is satisfyingly creepy and weird. It's not really my kind of music much anymore (it still is sometimes, sure) but I'm glad he's still doing his thing.

Whatever they are doing to lipsync these images with the song is a glitchy mess, it's like *just* the mouth is a smeary VHS copy of the image and this is all I can see. I can see it being deliberately unsettling but I just turned it off after a minute or so.

Bruce Willis as well. I think it’s all done with AI though.

After "Praise You" Fatboy Slim can do whatever the hell he wants. Wish I was able to identify all the people in it though. A bunch I don't get. Guy later on in the glasses and Straw Hat? Looks familiar but old so don't see them.

Song's not all that, maybe I didn't wait for the drop though. African American guy with the bushy afro as well, and several of the females I don't get. Fun game though.

Honestly I suspect it's just the same dumb "AI" thing that let the Mona Lisa sing along to Mony Mony that was all over the internet a few years ago. What I think it kind of interesting is how well (relatively speaking) it manages some of the classic videos and how oh god make it go away it is with some of the other ones. Whether that's intentional or just an artifact of the source material, y'know?

(I mean, as opposed to the Fatboy #1 Guy, which I'm pretty sure is just intentionally weird.)

Countdown to the Fatboy Slim deepfake generator starts now I suppose.

What better way to tell your partner you love them, wish your nephew a happy birthday or advocate ethnic genocide than with a machine-generated video of Fatboy Slim delivering your bespoke message of choice?

Worried that the artist himself might take umbrage towards having his visage used to argue for the mass murder of non-believers of your chosen zealot/deity/sports franchise? Don’t be! He doesn’t mind doing it to dead celebrities who can’t fight back, so he’s certainly alright if you use his terrifying machine-mangled sock puppet face to call for the assassination of beloved world leaders.

So go nuts y’all! GPUs are standing by. Call now!

That's one Norman Quentin Cook, innit.

Saw this on YouTube and thought, "Oh goody, new Fatboy Slim!" Then watched for a few seconds and "aw crap, AI." I guess I like the song, but really, Norman.

Maybe I'm being generous in my assumptions, but I assume they did this on purpose. It isn't that they didn't bother putting in the effort to clean up the deepfake mouths, it is that they did put in some effort to make sure that it does look fake.

i.e. the "This is _absolutely_ not Basquiat saying he's not a role model, a drinker, a smoker, a loser, or any of those other things - it's _clearly_ manipulated." defense

Similarly it's sure weird the Praise You video was just a recording of a shitty community dance troupe in a shitty mall. Surely Fatboy Slim or the label could have at least paid for something better than a hand-held video camera? Maybe the director and producer didn't know how to make a video.

And just not to seem totally clueless, (but yes), When I was watching this, I had totally replaced Fatboy Slim in my mind with The Scatman, so was totally lost...
