Top Canadian jockey Emma-Jayne Wilson made history in the fifth race at Woodbine July 11, breaking Hall of Famer Julie Krone's all-time purse earnings record for a female jockey, and you couldn't have scripted it any better.

Julie’s message of congratulations to Emma-Jayne was perfect. Her last comment was hilarious. She seems like a great person.

Totally agree. I know this isn't really a MetaFilter favourite topic, but I really thought it was a better than average sports profile--one that's worth reading whether you're into racing or not.

Thank you for this. My dad passed away on Saturday and he loved to bet on horses. He had a weird passion about it that I never really understood. Reading this made me feel close to him (he had a good life and a good run... at this point he wasn't living the life he wanted).

Good for her. It's quite an achievement

Older article the incredible women of racing 2015

Quotes Wilson;

“At Woodbine, we’re beyond the whole gender thing as it is such old news,” said Wilson. “When you look at Woodbine, there are a number of women jockeys in the room. But, when you look at other jurisdictions, they don’t have that same representation. So, when you ask if it’s an issue, it depends on where you are."

I still remember when Francine Villeneuve was making the news as a female rider.
