House Concerts - Can They Save Musicians?

Are house concerts the cure to the cratering live music touring industry? Probably not, but they’re certainly part of the solution. We’ve been running Billsville House Concerts for almost fourteen years, hosting nationally touring artists from around the country and giving them all the money! Are you aware of a house concert scene in your area? Punk/DIY, Folkie, Rock … would love to hear more about what’s about there and what you think of it. More direct transfer of money than buying merch! More longterm fans and, quite often, a dog.

I'm not understanding how this venue model works:
A great spot to play in a great part of the county, a fine helping of our vegetarian cooking, a place to stay for the night – and 100% of the proceeds.
It says "proceeds" not "profit" so they give the artists all of the money they take in? Then how do they pay to maintain the venue (I know it's a house but upkeep isn't free and there are all kinds of required expenses for a home), their staff (the website lists a Production/Sound Engineer and a security guy and someone's gotta be making that food), for the food, etc?
