It looks a bit like a large spliff...

As the Olympic games draw near, it is announced that the torch will soon be carried by Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr., professionally known as Snoop Dogg. Since leaving Greece in late April, the torch has jaunted around France in the build-up to the games. The torch will also be transported by an unusually long rowing boat, but it's still not widely known who (perhaps a MeFite) will be lighting the cauldron.

Delighted that Snoop is one of USA's greatest cultural exports.

I've been following NBC Olympics on Instagram and they had him do a team gear fit check a few days ago. I love this timeline for him. Hope Martha will be there cheering him on.

Just as long as he doesn't drop it like it's hot.

Who decided to make the Olympic torch look like the Dirt Devil KURV?

Snoop's got his fingers in a lot of pies. I find him endearing but also isn't it weird that like he was involved in a murder and we just kind of collectively laughed it off?

if the judge said acquit, torch must get lit

For a frankly weird ceremony that came from the baked heads of some of the worst people in the world in 1936, and that we nowadays just choose not to remember that was made famous by Leni Riefenstahl, it's good and cool and deeply ironic that someone as deeply un-athletic and un-ubermenschich as Snoop will be carrying it in 2024. 420 blaze it IMO.

I'm just grateful the 2024 Olympics aren't happening in Boston because fuck everything about that.

I don't really want to hang out with celebrities in general, but I would very much like to get high with Snoop D-Oh- Double- G.

He's got the power of an upright in his god damned hand.

Snoop did some guest work during NBC’s coverage of the track-and-field trials in Eugene. It seemed weirdly out-of-place yet cool at the same time.

> Snoop upon reading the BBC...

Maybe this is why he recently announced he was quitting.

You know Snoop's gonna blaze up with the torch if nobody is looking. Hopefully we get a leaked photo.

From what I understand, he's a sports nut, and not for the ones that you'd think - he did a series of fundamentals videos for the NHL, for example.

Yeah, the official Olympic mascot pen looks like fun and I love its knowing wink.

I don't know about deeply un-athletic He runs better than I could and I'm younger and don't smoke!

And count me as another one who finds it fascinating the gradual transformation of Snoop from "gangsta" to "America's cool pot dad"

gradual transformation of Snoop from "gangsta" to "America's cool pot dad"

I love the videos of folks doing mundane things like gardening or housecleaning while listening to 90s rap with the caption "Me listening to gangsta rap while doing the un-gangsta things." I think of it every time I put on The Chronic by Dr. Dre while I'm doing chores.

Eugene is also known for hella dank, so Snoop’s in the best of both doing sports there.

For the fans of bright breaks and homely getting-high-with-Snoop vibes, it's worth (re)drawing attention to that occasion from 2011 with the Welsh vegetable farmer.

That boat did a tour of the US back in like 2018 and I got to row it. It was quite smooth as it's so large it's really hard for one person to check the boat.

Seconding this question - the link just goes to a Flickr photo of a bunch of people, and there is no caption. Can we get bigger hints?

But an even more important question: can someone explain how SNOOP DOGG ended up carrying the torch for the PARIS Olympics?
