As the Olympic games draw near, it is announced that the torch will soon be carried by Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr., professionally known as Snoop Dogg. Since leaving Greece in late April, the torch has jaunted around France in the build-up to the games. The torch will also be transported by an unusually long rowing boat, but it's still not widely known who (perhaps a MeFite) will be lighting the cauldron.
Just as long as he doesn't drop it like it's hot.

Snoop's got his fingers in a lot of pies. I find him endearing but also isn't it weird that like he was involved in a murder and we just kind of collectively laughed it off?

For a frankly weird ceremony that came from the baked heads of some of the worst people in the world in 1936, and that we nowadays just choose not to remember that was made famous by Leni Riefenstahl, it's good and cool and deeply ironic that someone as deeply un-athletic and un-ubermenschich as Snoop will be carrying it in 2024. 420 blaze it IMO.

Snoop did some guest work during NBC’s coverage of the track-and-field trials in Eugene. It seemed weirdly out-of-place yet cool at the same time.

From what I understand, he's a sports nut, and not for the ones that you'd think - he did a series of fundamentals videos for the NHL, for example.

I love the videos of folks doing mundane things like gardening or housecleaning while listening to 90s rap with the caption "Me listening to gangsta rap while doing the un-gangsta things." I think of it every time I put on The Chronic by Dr. Dre while I'm doing chores.

That boat did a tour of the US back in like 2018 and I got to row it. It was quite smooth as it's so large it's really hard for one person to check the boat.

Okay, that answers the Snoop question, but raises the question about why those two games are related? ....Unless this is like when the UK opening ceremony made a point of putting a bunch of Brazillian kids into one of the pretaped segments because the next Olympics were due to be in Rio.

That one's easy - the IOC awarded Paris 2024 and LA 2028 in the same ceremony when they were the last bids standing for 2024 after public outcry caused the other bids to be withdrawn.

Boots Riley would be much more appropriate than Snoop Dogg for anything France related.
We'll see if the really cleaned up the river enough that nobody gets sick. Athletes are remarkably healthy, but France has remarkable corruption levels under Macron. lol
It's too bad they negotated an end to all the openning day strikes. It'd have been funny if flights had been rerouted elsewhere no Paris or similar.
La Quadrature du Net has good articles about the "temporary" surveillance tech France rolled out for the Olympics.
