The use of ground penetrating radar to help solve crimes is well known, but recently it's played a major role in helping Australian South Sea Islander communities find the missing bodies of long-lost ancestors.

A bit more about this particular history. Blackbirding was a form of enslavement preying on Pacific Ocean islanders, kidnapping and coercing people from all over the Pacific to work for enslavers. This Australian version is described in more detail here among other places.
