Wut! So cool.
We were at the opera in Vancouver and one of the board of directors came out before hand and gave a speech in one of the coast Salish languages. It’s gorgeous! Sounds like a beautiful flowing welsh or Flemish or Gaelic or something. He also spoke about reconciliation and said to the effect of “you’ve heard us. We’re reconciling. And we’re family now.” It was… deeply touching.
My kids have that “we all count” Ojibway board book and it was a favorite for a long time. I’m sure our pronunciation was awful but it was loads of fun.
CBC had the Olympics commentated in Ojibway too.

Oooh, very cool, hope they upload that to Disney+ down the road.
Related: The most recent film in the long-running Predator franchise, Prey, also has an entire Comanche language version of the film, and highly recommend viewing this version of the film. Movie is awesome!!

The article seemed to indicate that Disney+ will carry in in like a week ?
And impressive that skywalker studios assisted in this project… I mean they’d have to but still.
I can recite Star Wars line by line so not only to celebrate the language for the speakers, this is a really clever way to introduce the language to non-aboriginal audience.

I loved the Comanche version of Prey. I don't speak any Comanche so hearing the film that way created an intense sense of dislocation and foreignness with me that married well to the landscape shots. Also the voice acting was very good.
But this Star Wars thing is something different, I think it's intended for Ojibwe speakers to bring the film to them in a native language. And as a form of language preservation. Very cool!
A film clip would go a long way. Can't find any of the Ojibwe dub, but here's a 10 year old clip of Star Wars in Navajo. That was also a LucasFilm project. And here's a long video with people speaking Ojibwe if you want to get a sense of what that language sounds like.

My Ojibwe sucks, but I'm pretty sure the translation of Anangong Miigaading is "At the war in the star(s)" or "(Someone) fights a war in the star(s)". This is further proof that we shouldn't let Lucasfilm gaslight us: the first movie in the series is named STAR WARS, no New Hope no Episode IV, just like it said in the movie theater in 1977.

What I also love about the Ojibwe and Navajo versions is that the voice actors are community members. This isn’t to say that professional VAs are Hollywood big shots by nature. Still, it must be something special to have, say, an uncle that played Darth Vader.

Just a very small note - CBC actually provided Indigenous language coverage for 3x3 basketball, canoe/kayak, skateboarding and wrestling in Cree, Innu and Atikamekw, as well as basketball in Inuktitut.
