Marvellous surprise as rare endangered coastal emu eggs found in New South Wales state forest. A New South Wales Forestry Corporation employee has stumbled across a nest of eggs belonging to the endangered coastal emu during a routine pre-harvest inspection.
Those eggs are gorgeous. I wonder what causes that blue color.

Oh, my gosh, those chicks are all striped!! Cuteness overload!
My only concern is that given the numbers left these coastal emus are the walking extinct--how can they possibly overcome the lack of genetic diversity? Even if we could guarantee their habitat isn't degraded any further and keep the predation* down, how do they manage to avoid mutation and not be vulnerable to disease?
*do we call being run over and stalked by tourists until the stress level kills them human predation?
But meanwhile, those striped chicks still exist in my world, and it makes me smile to think of them.
