An ‘Unhinged Werewolf’ Will Make It Clear Who Voted
September 6, 2024 6:33 AM   Subscribe

It kind of just came to me. “If there is ever a year to have an unhinged werewolf ripping its shirt off as the “I Voted” sticker … it’s 2024.”

The werewolf sticker received more than 20,000 votes in the public contest, beating every other entry by a margin of nearly 2,000 votes, said Cheri Hardmon, a spokeswoman for the Michigan Department of State. The design gained traction on social media among those who found it fitting for an intense, and at times bewildering, moment in national politics.

Oh my god, I wish my voter registration was in Michigan as that is THE BEST I VOTED STICKER ever.

Also, something tells me that Jane has a secret Deviant Art account her parents don't know about...or maybe they do now!

A separate, also awesome, "I voted" sticker designed by kids, previously.

But the werewolf is pretty cool, too.

I've been cleaning a bunch this summer and decided to slap all the I Voted stickers I found up on my fridge as "decor," because I love voting. The sticker in front is the one from the 100th anniversary of women's right to vote. This sticker is just about the only one that could supplant front spot. Because the only thing radder than my suffrage is this frickin wolf.

Hell yeah boiii 🇺🇲🐺🦅

I voted in the primaries here in Ulster County and I got our famous human head on an arachnid sticker, it was the best. And the candidate I voted for won too.

Then there was the time a werewolf ran for president. An unsettling time in American politics.

Several members of the task force thought the creature was the Michigan Dogman, a human-canine hybrid who figures in local legends, Ms. Aljilehawi added. That interpretation is not shared by Jane, the artist, who sees the muscular werewolf as a representation of the strength that each American can exercise by voting.

"So, he's, like, our state legend, right Jane? He's the dogman from local stories?"

"No, definitely not. He's just super buff."

I never wanted to be a Michigander before, but wow. That kid could pay for college if she copyrighted that wolf. Also the utterly flat, just-the-facts tone of the article is magnificent.

please for the love of all that's holy, don't let a "professional" clean up that image. No pun intended, but it is perfect: the different widths of the stripes on the flag, the fact she had to cram the letter D on the end of the word. Keep it exactly as is, pay her whatever fees are necessary, and make this an official national voting sticker.

The only downside for me is that it conjures images of Hulk Hogan at the RNC, which the right will surely use if made aware.

The only downside for me is that it conjures images of Hulk Hogan at the RNC, which the right will surely use if made aware.

I think that's actually what I love about this. It feels like the Dems have FINALLY figured out how to counter the wackadoos on the right is to go low with them, but in a way that shows how much better the dems are at it. When Harris et al just started calling Trump et al weird, that was so so good, because it just knocked the breath out of them. And then she stayed on the offensive, and the right has literally no way to respond to that: all they know how to do is keep hitting the person who is committed to turning the other cheek over and over again. When that person hits back? They're completely flummoxed.

Same thing with this: when hulk hogan rips an american flag at the RNC, it just looks so dumb. It's just a weird old guy doing the only-ironically-cool schtick he did literally forty years ago. But when it's a werewolf that does it, it makes zero sense; it's just frigging awesome.

Let's keep putting republicans' finger-paintings up on the fridge, and meanwhile everybody else can continue to make great art.

Finally, a place where my degree in political science and my expertise in teratology converges!

Ok, tribe by tribe, here's my general predictions on how American Werewolves will vote in 2024 (borrowing from the Werewolf the Apocalypse TTRPG):

Black Furies: they're Greco-Pagan feminists. They vote Harris, with no exceptions.

Bone Gnawers: I'm surprised they haven't eaten Donald Trump already. They're voting blue.

Children of Gaia: Nature loving hippies will be voting Democrat this year, not Robert Kennedy Jr.

Fianna: Boisterous Gaelic werewolves, will, overall, be skewed by Dropkick Murphys, and are likely to vote with the more pro-union candidate.

Get of Fenris: You'd think the Scandinavian Pagan ultra-warrior werewolves might vote Trump. But you'd be wrong. They hate cowards. They're hardcore Never Trumpers.

Glass Walkers: bougie urban tech enthusiast werewolves are actually like Reid Hoffman- sensibly attuned enough to the economy to not be libertarian idiots. But when, when will they finally hunt and slay Peter Thiel?

Red Talons: as they try to live as wolves for the most part, Red Talons may not even be aware that they could vote in an election.

Silent Striders: Descended from Middle Eastern peoples, the Silent Striders will be voting against Trump.

Silver Fangs: They're insane Russian aristocrats, so they're probably voting for Trump.

Shadow Lords: Machiavellian slavic opportunists might seem like Trump supporters, and they probably have some contingency werewolves who are plugged into Project 2025. But like the Get, they despise weakness. Shadow Lords are the Republican werewolves who are sabotaging the campaign.

Stargazers: Navel gazing monastic werewolves practice mindfulness and therefore vote for Kamala.

Elder Brother/ Manitou: As protectors of First Nations peoples, they're voting for Harris/Walz.

Younger Brother/ Gale Walkers: Also voting Harris

Black Spiral Dancers: Insane chaos nihilists, the Dancers are at least posting for Trump on X and Reddit, if not actually working on his campaign.

Fire Touched: You might think these destructive fanatics would be for Trump, but wrong again. The Fire Touched value ruthless honesty- Trump's anathema for them. They're like those Evangelicals that won't vote for Trump.

Hunters in Darkness: Harris/ Walz due to environmental concerns.

And of course, the media wants to make it into a simple Fur vs. Fang hose race: urban vampires will vote for Harris, rural werewolves will vote for Trump but as we can see, it's so much more complicated than that. (Trump's still locked up the ghoul vote though)

Nice to see some MeFi love for Michigan.

My favorite thing about Michigan is that whenever I meet someone from Michigan I hold out the palm of my right hand and ask them where they're from because it looks like a map of Michigan (not my hand, anybody's hand). Instead of thinking it's weird they almost always point to where they're from without a second thought.
