ARCHiOx (Analysis and Recording of Cultural Heritage in Oxford) is a project to create detailed 3D models of a variety of books and objects from the collections of the Bodleian Library, allowing users to explore highly decorative and unusual bindings without a visit to the reading room. These are great! The bindings are so beautiful.
If you are interested in more stuff like this, Sketchfab has a ton of 3d models that are free to download from various museums. There's a project called Global Digital Heritage that's a good place to start. It's a cooperative effort to scan artifacts (and entire historical sites!) around the world and make them available with a Creative Commons license.
Thanks for posting these, I'm looking forward to exploring these!

So sadly Sketchfab will be shutting this service down in the near future -- if anyone knows of a group or organization that might be interested in supporting an independent 3D hosting and browsing service, let me know!

Oh no! It looks like they will host the free models into 2025 and then shut them down at some unspecified point.
Damnit.
