E.M. Carroll is a Canadian treasure of spooky creepy comic goodness.

Rachel Smythe's Lore Olympus is one of the best comic series I've read in a long time (I've purchased the trades) and highly recommended for all my fellow Greek mythology nerds.

I definitely don't know who is going to win, but here are my thoughts on some of the categories:
2024 Harvey Awards' Book of the Year nominations: I added A Guest in the House, Radiant Black and Shubeik Lubeik to my "to read" list and think all look stellar. I read and enjoyed Lunar New Year Love Story. A very nice PG romance.

2024 Harvey Awards' Best Children's Book nominations: Can't keep Scarlett Shredder on the shelf at school library. I bet Amulet #9 will be very popular as well. I thought Mexikid was so funny and well done, wish more folks would discover it. I've added Timid to my list. (Quick plug: over on fanfare I'm running a YA/Middle Grade book club and we will vote on what to read for May. Maybe one of theses?)

2024 Harvey Awards' Best Young Adult Book nominations: I think Deep Dark has a lot of appeal for it's gothic romance tone. I've added both Brownstone and Homebody to my to-read list.

2024 Harvey Awards' Best Manga nominations: The Summer Hikaru Died sounds so good.

2024 Harvey Awards' Best International Book nominations: Intrigued by My Picture Diary and the description of the drawings of going inside Sherlock's head sound cool from Inside the Mind of Sherlock Homles.

The manga nominations are all top notch, and I expect it to be a fantasy four way fight - that said, I expect that it being the final chapter with Miura's work will give Berserk an edge.

This is a very thorough FPP!

I'm happy to see Sergio Aragonés (finally?) get his hall of fame nod. I met him at a launch event for Groo the Wanderer [40 years ago!] and have a signed #1 still; I was a fan of his MAD marginalia long before that.

Thanks, GenjiandProust! I worked hard on it.

Oooh, thanks for this post!

I loved Shubeik Lubeik. The worldbuilding was inventive and thorough, there was an energy to the art that I really enjoyed, and the stories broke my heart and patched it back up in turn. It was one of my favorite books of 2023, and I like seeing it being recognized!

It's also good to see Hama get the recognition as well - though saying that he worked on G.I. Joe is an understatement - a lot of the series mythos came from his mind. He's also a quite the character (for example, he was known for carrying an Uzi in his briefcase back in the 80s),as well as a fierce fighter for minority creators in comics stemming from his own struggles.

I'm in the sad category of only recognizing manga from this list, but seconding NoxArednum that most of these titles have had good press. The Summer Hikaru Died is on my to-read list.

The book of the year category is pretty top-notch. Monica and My Favorite Thing Is Monsters are both pretty monumental works, I think, by two geniuses of the form. I'm a die-hard Dan Clowes fan, and Monica is really good, but I think I'd give the award to Monsters if it were up to me. I liked A Guest in the House a lot too, and I've heard good things about Roaming and Shubeik Lubeik.

Harvey Awards 2024 winners!

(Full disclosure: I was one of the coordinators for these during 2019-2023. I can't speak to anything that happened this year because I don't know. I'm still a huge fan of these awards and the current steering committee and I'd love to be involved again. They know that.)

Delicious in Dungeon absolutely deserved the win (and I am so looking forward to getting the box set for the manga in December.)
