And almost exactly a year after Claudia Goldin became the first woman to win a solo Nobel Prize in Economics* for her work on women's labor market outcomes, including the sources of pay differentials.
*Yes, to be precise, the Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel.

Two years before she was set for retirement, she filed a lawsuit in 1999 and initially won $3.8 million in backpay and damages from a federal court.
Ms. Ledbetter never saw a single dime. There is no justice within the law.
In 2023, women working full time earned 83 cents on the dollar compared with men, down from 84 cents in 2022.
She worked so hard, and every woman in the US should be damn scared at what is happening now.

Reminder to all that this is a stat for women in aggregate. Surprising to absolutely no one, it's much worse for women of color. Latinas earn 57¢ for every white man-dollar, and black women earn 64¢ (2021 stats for those numbers).
