Housing model that's gold for women fleeing domestic violence. The model turns empty buildings into homes for vulnerable women and a shelter organisation wants it expanded to give more people a safe place to sleep at night amid the housing crisis.

This is a fabulous initiative. I am going to send this article to a friend of mine in local government who is part of the task force on housing.

It never occurred to me that of course one more negative effect of being unhoused or shelter-housed would be lack of a rental history. This initiative is great on so many levels but that’s one I hadn’t thought of: providing a rental history to folks so they can get into permanent housing.

I hadn't thought about the blight of empty storefronts -- kept that way by landlords who would rather it ait empty than lower rents -- spreading to the residential market.

And when it does, of course it will be the most vulnerable people who get screwed AGAIN.
