The Mushroom Color Atlas is a resource and reference for everyone curious about mushrooms and the beautiful and subtle colors derived from dyeing with mushrooms. But it is also the start of a journey and a point of departure, introducing you to the kaleidoscopic fungi kingdom and our connection to it. My hope is that through this Atlas everyone will be inspired to learn more about the mycological world, and begin to understand the importance of the networks, connections and symbiotic relationships that live in our forests. Most importantly, understanding our impact on these delicate networks and our role as stewards of the land, bringing positive change to our local environments and our planet. [via The Morning News]
What a lovely post. I'm always excited to see more posts about mycology on the blue. Huzzah!!

I've already shared with a biology prof I know (his area of research is mycology), and a person who recently did artwork using mushroom-based inks.
Very cool resource! Thank you chavenet, I sometimes suspect you of being a highly advanced AI whose sole purpose is to post topics to MeFi across such a wildly ranging assortment of topics that it would be futile to predict the next topic!

I always complain when FPPs result in me adding more books to my own to-be-read stack, but this time I get one to add to my "buy someone for Christmas" stack! This is really wonderful!

I just recently took a relative to the Puget Sound Mycological Society's annual mushroom show and I'd say the biggest surprise for her was the mushroom dye table. It's truly wild that you can get basically any color you can imagine from fungus.

This is great! I do a lot of mushroom foraging and am a certified mushroom reseller. My wife wants to start experimenting with colors. Moss and lichen also make some great colors.

I am on the fence as to whether chavenet's title is very good or blindingly awful, like uncle-grade awful
I say this as an uncle

My wife has a blog exploringcolour and she loved seeing these, we were thinking about how much so many looked like human skin, reminding me that mushrooms get a sun tan too! [horticulture.com.au]
Does she do licorice allsorts? I'd think Psafe_Psychedlics™ would be much in demand in these times.

It wasn't until I lived in central Mexico for a time that I even began to understand the amazing diversity of mushrooms.
Mexico's biodiversity is pretty mind-blowing with respect to all domains, and there'a veritable rainbow of edible mushrooms for the taking, especially in Querétaro and Guanajuato states.
Here are some photos from an autumn 2021 mushroom hunt in the woods in Querétaro state. (A knowledgeable guide steered us toward the good eatin' shrooms.)
