The "greenhouse effect" is a terrible misnomer, because greenhouses work by suppressing convection, and that's nothing like what happens in the atmosphere. Also, it's not a bad thing, it's necessary for life on earth. This is the topic of a lovely 1994 lecture by an esteemed professor of meteorology. Read the faq before you @ him! I love this page and hope it stays up forever. (Don't mistake this for an anti-warming rant, it's about terminology and teaching the actual science correctly)

Biden pardons his son Hunter, breaking prior pledges
Having recently posted on the Planck time, it can be defined as the amount of time it took for Democrats to go from “I believe Biden when he says he won’t pardon Hunter” to “It was the right thing for Biden to pardon Hunter, because Reasons”.

I have two and will include my excuses for not posting myself!
Roper Romp. I couldn't find any Roper Romp posts but when I started to compose a post, I got the notice that the links may have been posted before so I gave up.
Rita Payes Tiny Desk Concert. Not posting myself because Rita Payes was already the subject of one of my (exceedingly rare) FPPs in 2016.

China just announced a new high speed train. The CR450 will be able to complete the 700-mile journey from Beijing to Shanghai in about 2.5 hours. This is about the same distance as Charleston SC to NYC, which takes Amtrack 14 hours.
Note that flying from CHS-NYC effectively takes 3 hours (2 hr flight time + 1 hr security/preboard), so trains running at that speed are very effective.

The Bexhill 1940 Winter Wartime Model Railway commissioned by actor and comedian Suzy Izzard. Suzy’s father, John Izzard, was evacuated to the countryside during WWII and the model captures what the city looked like when John returned home for Christmas in 1940. The Bexhill Museum also contains the Izzard Family Model Railway, built by Suzy, her brother Mark and their father John.

Moment of zen - new baby pygmy hippo at the Metro Richmond Zoo gets in the water for the first time since she was born. My favorite name is already out of the running but you can still vote in the baby's name runoff today until 11:59 EST - top two choices are "Poppy" or "Hammie Mae." (Richmond here refers to the capital of the state of Virginia, USA, for disambiguation)

Dr. Rohin Francis, an interventional cardiologist, talks about the sadness doctors feel about losing patients A meditation on the tragic loss of life and the frustration that results from not being able to prevent it, despite trying the latest medical techniques. It's very poignant and moving and uplifting as well. The comments below his You Tube post are from a lot of different medical providers sharing experiences, and highly recommended.
