Not just a-holes, but warmongers too

Not just selfcentered, but warmongers too. SUV owners are more likely the the general populous to support the war in Iraq (60%). When small SUVs are eliminated, the figure jumps to (80%). Probably not a causal relationship, but interesting none the less.
...but interesting none the less.
Sure, if by "interesting" you mean "fictional." Just a hunch, but I kind of doubt "The Center for the Institute of Studies" actually exists. In fact, I'm pretty sure the entire article is fictional.

The story seems to be roughly based on the findings of Keith Bradsher's book "High and Mighty" which has been hot on the air waves for quite some time, however, like I said "roughly" this one seems to be a fictionalized version of Bradsher's work.

There's some pretty funny stuff at that site, actually. I thought the "Chupacabra Pup Foils Islamic Terror Bombers" was pretty nice, as was "Lady Justice to wear a Burqa"
Heh. Heh. Of course, it wasn't clear from the post that it was humor, but doesn't that make it better?

I suppose if they took a survey of vegans who eat granola, don't bathe regularly and wear Birkenstocks, they would be overwhelmingly against a war. Of course, what does that prove?

You're kidding, right? A post, albeit humorous, that contains references to SUV drivers and the pending war against Iraq? Are there any two other subjects so carefully calculated to bring out left-wing rage?

Posts whining about SUV owners are more likely than other posts to be pointless and dull (60%). When the posts are misleading, the figure jumps to (100%). Probably not a causal relationship, but interesting none the less.

That some people are really gullible?
But no, it's true. Big car = small dick = lust for war. I thought everyone knew this.

What's amazing is how the first few posters didn't seem to get that this was a completely sarcastic fabrication, not a legitimate article. Geez, people, put the mouse down, back away from the computer, you've been in the SUV/Iraq/Dubya war trenches too long if you can't recognize such broad and blatant humor. I wasn't particularly amused by the article, but that doesn't mean it wasn't obviously a joke...

With the amount of crap posted here either for or against war/suvs/bush I'm still waiting to find the "humor" in the post. Seeing as how I was just in the middle of reading through reactions to "High and Mighty" I must have just not been able to distinguish between sarcastic and "real" posts, this reads just like that crap so sorry I wasn't able to get the "blatant humor" and "obvious" joke, I must just be a complete idiot!

Just for aficianados: here's the ultimate SUV. I doubt this baby is all that rollover-prone! Even the gas mileage isn't that bad, when you consider the curb weight.

I find it interesting that a few weeks ago I tried to put up the first FPP concerning that 'high and mighty' book and what it says about SUV drivers. The post was about a review/article that appeared in the Boulder Weekly which basically said that SUV drivers tend to be jerks. At that time, my FPP was deleted. I assumed it was because I had crossed some type of line, even though I thought it was a very valid topic for discussion. Since that time I have seen several posts/discussions about that book and SUVs in general. What gives? Why was I bounced but other posts about the topic are ok?

techgnollogic said it best. I saw this and thought "Oh, wow... another pointless anti-war post on MeFi. And this one even drags in SUVs!" It wasn't until I (against my better judgement) looked inside that I realized it was intended to be humor.
Congratulations, MeFiers. You have crossed the bounds of self-parody!

For what its worth, even if this statistic were true, it could simply be explained by the fact that older people are more conservative; and have more money, are more likely to have kids, and thus the perceived need of an SUV. In other words 40 or 50 year-olds are more likely to drive SUVs than 20 or 30 year-olds.
Of course, 40 or 50 year olds should also be wiser than 20 or 30 year-olds and realize how stupid SUVs are. But, alas, they are not.

Yeah! ....... and SUV owners pick their noses more! and, on top of that, because they believe environmental pollution is mostly an absurd liberal hoax, they tend to cluster disproportionately in US "Mercury hot-spots". So they tend to have autistic children - I've seen them rocking spastically back and forth in the backs of those huge SUV's.
Those parents are mad as hell about it all...of course they want to bomb the piss out of some distant country - But they're realistic too - they know they need that oil! and they're damn well going to get it...
