New Bookworm Game

We can thank Crunchland for introducing us to the addictive online game Bookworm. The downloadable version is finally here. The bad news: It's $25.
The bad news: It's $25.
The good news is, it's still available as a free online game at popcap.com.

I have a general rule of thumb to never to pay money for games unless they involve blowing stuff up in high resolution. It is a diverting little game though.

$25 is a little expensive, but not too much. It seems to be windows only though.

Bookworm, despite being addictive, is too easy and takes too long to play... I scored about 1,500,000 and played for a long, long time before I stopped in disgust.

...and it didn't let me play an eight letter word. Bastards.

Lacking a PC, I haven't tried this - but, if as aladfar suggested in the other thread, it's like OS X's Nomia, then it must be terrific. Nomia's a fun, challenging and addictive word-game, and it's made by two friends of mine. Plus, registering is a mere $10.

I had a burning R that I let reach the bottom, believing I could get rid of it with the word Norse. The Bookworm dictionary didn't recognize the word Norse, and I lost. There went Popcap's chances for my $25.

Cheat for Bookworm:
If you double-click the first letter of a word, it doesn't have to be contiguous to the rest of the letters in that word. You can start with a "g" on one side of the board and end with "one" on the other side to get credit for "gone". This helps you crank up the bonus points and eliminate the burning letters.
I've done this with the online version and Safari on OS X. It doesn't seem to work with Explorer on W2K. The game still doesn't end -- I pushed it past 10,000,000 and then gave up

I do love Diamond Mine and Big Money though. ;)
And Bubble Trouble from Miniclip.com has an annoying addictive quality to it (IMHO).
