Happy 136th, Canada!

You say this coming, I'm sure. It's Canada's 136th birthday. Come up to Ottawa for the biggest, and I mean BIGGEST party of the year. Enjoy free live shows from The Guess Who, Leahy, Daniel Lanois or La Bottine Souriante, to name a few. Watch the parade. Oh, and fireworks. Be proud of the Maple Leaf!

You say this coming,
Be proud of the Maple Leaf!
Be ashamed of the spelling!
Fear the hockey team!
Next, on Fox!

Or even better...spend the day in Montreal and go to the jazz festival at night.
Of course, the Expos are on the road.

My impressions of the celebrations in the capital:
The Canadian Armed Forces demonstrated their underfunding by providing a military ferry across the ottawa river which broke down around PM
I have only seen larger crowds twice, both in Toronto.:The Gay Pride Parade and Carribana.
The entertainment lineup was pretty weak but nobody cared. Daniel Lanois was interesting but he wasn't on the main stage. The Guess Who's last hit song was before most of the audience was born.
Ominous clouds and a 15 Minute downpour around 8:30 had very little impact other than perhaps making some women regret wearing their white Canada t-shirts.
Impressively long fireworks display.

Canada Day isn't Canada Day without being able to look out over Lake Ontario and watch the Benson and Hedges Symphony of Fire.
